View Full Version : Chiefs Most Pathetic Play In Chiefs History

Direckshun
05-04-2013, 09:35 AM
Not worst play ever, as in the most significant bad play in Chiefs history.

I mean the one play in Chiefs history that was just so fundamentally terrible from a football standpoint, that it made you honestly question how/why the player(s) that committed it could have landed an NFL career.

My vote:

I believe it was 2007 or 2008, the last year or two of Herm Edwards. I forget who he QB was.

The Chiefs were down to their last play in yet another losing effort to the Colts, but they were only down one score with about sixty yards left to go.

The Chiefs go into a lateral-off, having several players lateral to keep the play alive until, hope against hope, one of them could break off and score.

Brian Waters. Tony G. Then the ball gets to Samie Parker.

Samie Parker dives into the turf, and crawls about three yards until a Colts player walks up and touches him on the shoulder, ending the game.

Brian Waters visibly pissed. Somebody explains to Parker what the fuck he did, and he smiles and laughs with his knees still on the turf.

Beat that, Planeteers.

(I'll get a "most impressive play" thread going after this one runs its course.)

Kimble Anders beach-balling a sure touchdown into an interception right before halftime in the AFC Championship game.

Also giving up like 50 yards on 4th and 10 to Elway on MNF after Stephone Paige's late 80-yd TD and it looked like we were finally going to win one.

You misunderstand the thread.

I'm not asking about significant mistakes: i.e. ones that cost us a playoff trip, or a Super Bowl.

I'm asking about flat incompetency.

There have been a million worse plays than Anders screwing that reception.

That's going to suffer from severe recency bias.

I know it's not one play, but I vote Herm sitting on the ball to preserve the win in a four win season, instead of taking a shot in the end zone so TG could set the yardage record at home.

Oh this one is easy for more than one reason...

The Mark Castle interception to Eric Weddle on a screen pass that was mentioned earlier.

Reason 1: It may be the most absurd pass that I have seen in my 33 years of existence on this planet.

Reason 2: As an added bonus, he tried to put on his hat and missed his own head then looked like he was ready to start bawling like the bitch he was. That brief moment in time showcased the ***** era. We all already knew the Patriots West era was a mistake by that time (except for the head-in-the-sand "true fans") but seeing that pathetic display of bitchness during both the pass and the donning of the cap will haunt my nightmares forever.

The entire 4th quarter of one of the Chiefs vs Chargers games in 2008. They were up by like 3 scores, and then blew the game, capped by Bowe flubbing an onside kick.

Another one I vaguely remember is like it was early 2005 I believe, game at Denver. Chiefs had LJ and Priest Holmes. Like 3rd play of the game or something, LJ fucking gives up in the pile and lets a Bronco player take the football.

Yeah, it was almost like those were designed plays. He'd run into the linemen and then just fucking fall to the ground.

Oh yeah, and who can forget our two tackles just flopping to the ground because of the dumbass o-line coach teaching them that? I believe it was Albert and Richardson, they both just flopped to the ground like they were going for some low block or something, it was pathetic as they didn't even make an attempt at an actual block, they just fell to the ground and the defensive players just hopped over them.

I have no idea what game it was, but one of the awful lineman we had got like 3 holding calls in a row or something. I want to say Jordan Black but its hard to say.

There's been so many that I can't even think of anything.

So many times, 3rd and long and we rush it up the gut for 2 yards. Or dump pass on 3rd and long for 5 yards.

The Herm Edwards playoff game was embarrassing to watch.

The Dewayne Bowe drop that would have beat the Colts is a play I remember. But we like D Bowe, so he can't have the most pathetic play ever.

That was the first play that came to mind for me.

Elvis spiking the ball on fourth down comes to mind too, though I don't recall if that was a preseason game. Not that it matters for this discussion.

Or you know, I don't remember the particular play, but the play that may have made me the most angry as a Chiefs fan was Herm Edwards playing conservative in overtime against Peyton Manning's Colts and then punting to PEYTON MANNING, assuming he was going to win a field position battle or something. That series tipped me over the edge from being patient to being stridently anti-Herm and Carl.

While there was no particular play, I would also offer the following three things:

Eric Hicks getting beat on a rollout for the 8,000th time.

Greg Robinson's defense rushing one guy in order to give the quarterback several minutes to complete a pass.

Paul Hackett always calling plays on third down that had no routes past the first down marker.

2006 - overtime with Cleveland and Greg Wesley (I believe it was him) completely blew a tackle on Derek Anderson who scrambled for a huge gain. If I remember right they ran a couple of plays and then kicked the game-winning field goal. I was so pissed that I broke my remote control and threw away the Chiefs shirt I was wearing that day. Man, I used to be so passionate when it came to the Chiefs, that losses like that destroyed me. The last seven years have numbed me a bit to painful losses. And blowout losses too I guess.

(1:42) (Field Goal formation) D.Colquitt FUMBLES (Aborted) at SEA 28, RECOVERED by SEA-K.Herndon at SEA 39. K.Herndon for 61 yards, TOUCHDOWN. Colquitt charged with two fumbles on the play. Matt Casshole (obviously) fumble at the 1 against the Ravens last year. The coaches thought maybe they could keep casshole from fucking up by just running 800 times, but then, they severely underestimated the power of the casshole.

For me its the game ending failure to stop Dave Kreig after Derrick Thomas sacked him 7 times and we lost the ballgame.

However,

The ones that continue to bug me to this day was Stenerud's missed field goals on Christmas Day. I was at that game and I will never forget the silence as I left the stadium. That was the depth of despair. LOL

But I must say that ole Dave Hill provided many classic failures. You could probably pick from hundreds during the Jimmy Raye era. And Dave Adolf called some classics. Then of course...who will ever forget Mike Stock's unbelievable expressions during special teams failures.

The 32 defense. All of their plays. Mostly the secondary. Total incompetency and the reason people get to continually say that having one of the best o lines in history didnt mean shit because we didnt win a po game or says Trent was sub par for the same reason. Like it was their fault.

Oh. My god.

That sounds hysterical.

Must see a video of that.

It was vs Seattle. Aguilar regularly threw instead of punting in practice. I can't remember if that was to save his leg, or if it was because we had recently moved to the indoor facility and the roof was too low. Anyhow, Marty got the idea that his throws, to a PR, looked just like punts, so had them try it in a game. PR backed off, our guy ran underneath it... Perfect.

The Raiders finished 8-8 that year. We would have won the division and hosted the Dolphins in Marino's last game the next week. DT may very well be alive if Stoyanovich makes the FG at the end of regulation.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/q6Z1vRvyW8U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The most exciting game I've ever seen live. My uncle had season tickets in the front row of club level in that end zone. When Vanover scored the TD I was hugging random people behind me I'd never met before. My uncle and cousin left to beat traffic when the Chargers went up by a touchdown with a minute left, while my friend and I stayed. I still give them shit about it, but they usually don't take it very well.

Unless I've missed it, I have no idea how these two haven't been mentioned:

4th and 8 from deep in our own end in a tight game against the Broncos. Fake punt. You'd have to be an idiot not to see Brodie Croyle in punt formation.

And certainly worthy, the fullback (Tim Castille?) pass back to Matt Cassel when we had some momentum against the Chargers on the road.

1998, 77,000 fans at the playoff game agains't the Bronco's. 14 to 10 the score. 4 min 4 sec to go. KC has the ball and is driving. At the 29 yard line of the Bronco's with 1 min 40 to go. Right after the 2 min warning KC uses last time out. With min 40 to go, 3rd down KC wastes 45 sec trying to figure out a play. Finally on 4th down Hail Mary to Lake Dawson in end zone instead of trying to get a 1st down 4 yards away. Complete breakdown of clock management, play calling, field awareness, and composure. Worst example of football playing I've ever seen.

Someone has it as a signature, but the throw where Cassel had a clean throwing lane to a WR across the middle about 10 yards downfield and just flat overthrows him by 10 yards.

The first time Herm played the Colts. Croyle's third start. When they should have been loosening up the leash some. NOPE! I was furious. I had tried to be a homer because IIRC Hali and Allen were tearing it up. Game's lost if you punt, and they had the PERFECT opportunity to see if Croyle had something. That really filled me with hate and rage. Herm killed my homerism and that was the tipping point.

Does anyone remember the qb that we had - that maybe played 1 play, it was like Ingle Martin or something - and got cut the next day - I remember thinking to myself WTF...

It was a wildcat type play...

Raiders were in town for the 2008 home opener when JaFatass Bustell embarrassed us. He was listed as a WR and we pick him up as a fucking quarterback because he played one in college. ROFL
