Bit of info on our 2 hitting coaches:

Andre David had 58 career AB's and hit .245 with 1 HR
Jack Maloof never had a major league AB

These are the guys GMDM and Yost brought in to get this team to hit for power.

Little blurb on Yost from Bernie at the Post Dispatch.

* Finally: can someone of sound mind in Kansas City explain why Ned Yost still is managing the Royals? This is absolutely baffling to me. You see the bizarre strategy decisions and nonsensical lineup construction. You see highly touted young players regressing instead of getting better. You see the Royals sinking when they’re supposed to be rising.
And this is a same guy who had a terrific team in Milwaukee but was so awful in leading the team down the stretch that he got fired with 12 games to go. (Remember how easily Tony La Russa goaded and baited Yost into losing his mind during games?) The Brewers elevated Dale Sveum to interim manager with less than two weeks to go; he saved the season and got the Brewers into a wild card spot. Yost is 231-302 as the Royals manager and his team is failing to evolve into what it can be.

I had crown seats today. Yadir Molina is a Hall of Fame catcher. The Cards are just a great franchise. The Royals however aren't good. All Red out there today.

Yadir molests collies.

Hope you spent all your disposable income in Jackson County. Hope there's lots of DUI checkpoints on I-70 going east tonight.

I hope the Chiefs destroy the Rams next time we play them.

Had one ear on Channel Five. Anchor says "Royals - Cardinals in an afternoon Memorial Day Matchup. See who came out on top next..."

Really?

That's a "news tease???"

Was there, like, a doubt???

I hate Royals baseball.

Likewise. Great seats, good game.

But WTF? The crown seats don't have anything that's inclusive? Most of those high-end seats at Busch have a fair number of all-inclusive food options - beer, hot dogs, nachos; basic stuff. At the K it's $125 for the tickets and it's still $10 for a beer.

That's pretty goddamn absurd.

As Rany pointed out:

Yes people, Wainwright had only only walked 6 all year. Shields had only walked 15 - and the Cards coaxed 5 out of him. Patience is a skill. The Cardinals as a whole, will go up there and hack at the first pitch if its what they were looking for but, after that most players will be patient for their pitch to come around again.

Waino just doesn't walk a lot of people. He was off his game today. The dude could end up winning the Cy Young award. I wouldn't judge your team based on a game against Waino.

Ned says we had Wainwright on the ropes and we showed life today...lmaoBesides one other game, those first 3 innings are the worst Waino has been all year.

But, now he is putting together these .300+ BA seasons............he just might get in now.

Glass is a cheap, no-good motherfucking fag-ass, KC-hating cock sucker and a bad human! He's there to get your money and is going to rip that shit from your pocket at every turn until you have none. He's the worst of the worst person in the world and only loves money. I'm pretty sure he clubs baby seals too, but that's not important right now, he needs to not fail as an owner (but there seems to be no hope in sight for that to happen). He's a greedy pussy and every level of staff under him are pussies too - and the worst at what they do. Fuck Glass!

There, I said it, he clubs baby seals!

David and Dan Glass are worthless pieces of shit, make no mistake.

However, these idiots spent a representable amount of money this year. Not a lot, no. But enough to put a decent product on the field. The problem is that Dayton fucking Moore is a motherfucking idiot, and this was established as fact as early as the summer of '09.

I was in the diamond club seats, so not quite the same section, I guess.

I was right behind that rail. I don't have the pictures b/c my phone died, but I figured I was about 30 feet to your 8 o'clock.

Your seats must've been more expensive than ours then. I still couldn't believe that $125/seat didn't so much as get me a hot dogs and coke.

Catchers are often judged, fairly or unfairly, by the number of titles they win.

Well, Yadi has backstopped 2 of them now and there aren't a ton of guys that can say that. He'll probably end up with somewhere near 10 GGs and by the time his career closes he'll have very solid offensive numbers.

Give him 3 more years similar two the last 2 and then 2 more years similar to the 4 before that and he's in the Hall with relative ease.

It's really amazing how he's developed as a hitter. I mentioned it elsewhere, but he's essentially a miniature version of Pujols in his prime - there's just not a good place to pitch him. He obviously doesn't have the power that Pujols had, but he's patient and he will take what a pitcher gives him. He's an outstanding professional hitter and hopefully he'll get a little more MVP consideration this year.

They don't first pitch hack nearly as much now that La Russa and McGwire are gone. This is a far more patient team overall.

The numbers don't actually support this.

And honestly, nor does a fair recollection of events. McGwire always espoused a very patient hitting approach and a simple 'back up the box' swing. Mike Easler and Mitchell Page were also similar in this regard.

Hal McRae was a 'grip it and rip it' kind of coach that did not mid first pitch swinging, but that wasn't a common LaRussa theme and it certainly wasn't something you could put at McGwire's feet. Even now, drawing walks is about the only thing the Dodgers do well.

2011: 812 times where they swung and put the first ball in play: 5 times per game.

2012: 810 times where they swung and put the first ball in play: 5 times per game.

2013: 219 times where they swung and put the first ball in play: 4.46 times per game.

That's a pretty significant drop off, and I don't think it's explained by this team being full of swing and miss hackers.

Patience isn't solely defined by walks taken. I don't know what the pitches/PA is for this team, but I'd be surprised if it was the same or lower than the previous two years.
