I wear glasses. Bifocals to be more specific. Worn them for near-sighted issues since I was about 10.

I wore glasses for my long vision until I was about 48 and started needing reading glasses. I tried bifocals for about a year and couldn't stand them. So my eye doctor suggested Lasik for my long vision. Now I only need glasses to read.

God, I so wish I could pick the monocle. That would be kick ass!

I had RK when I was 25. I was at the limit of young age & correction that they would do.

Now my close & far vision isn't the best. Wear contacts for golf & hunting.

I wear reading glasses when necessary, but otherwise need no vision correction I am somewhat opposite if this, I need glasses to see things far away, though I have not bothered with them in a long time. For some unexplained reason my vision got better, still not 100% but not enough to wear glasses.

I've had two major eye surgeries to save my sight. In June of 2002 and May of 2004 I suffered detached retinas. The first time in my right eye and the second time two tears in my left eye.

Both needed IMMEDIATE surgery to repair them. I was in the operating room within 24 hours both times.

Each eye has a scleral buckle around it and they injected gas into each eye after surgery to help the retina adhere back to it's normal position.

I suffer from a large amount of floaters and specs swimming in my eye.

My eyesight is horrible without contacts or glasses.

Be thankful of your sight!

When I was two years old I developed Cataract's in both eyes and had to have several operations to have removed. I'm pretty much completely blind in my left eye and suffer from Glaucoma. I had the lasik surgery done on my right eye about 12 years ago and that has worked out pretty good. Still need glasses to read and watch t.v though.

As you mentioned the situations when you do and don't wear glasses, you mentioned reading, viewing things from a distance, and using a computer. I understand the relevance of those activities and their relationship to seeing.

You also mentioned not needing glasses for eating. I didn't get that. Assuming the food is within an arm's reach, I never considered that anyone would need "eating glasses."

Oh, I see. It's not a matter of need. I could eat blind and in the dark, I suppose. It's a matter of liking to see what I'm eating. For some reason, I can see my food better without glasses. I don't like to eat in dim light too much either for the same reason.

I've had 20/10 vision all my life, but starting to have to hold fine print a little farther away as I get older. Eyeball Doc says I'll eventually need reading glasses. I'm kind of looking forward to looking at people skeptically over the top of my glasses.

For five years now I have used non corrective bifocals for reading and taking in near objects. Before that I used none. My wife is a neonatologist and has had correcting lenses for her adult life. But it became a hassle to have focused vision first at computer reading distance, then to paper reading output, then to procedures. Trifocals and progressive lenses left her looking for that part of her glasses that worked for a specific task and still had one craning ones head.

So two years ago I made her buy Supervision glasses. They are focal length adjustable lenses that carry your prescription for correcting your aberration in seeing. In other words you get your vision corrected for near or far sighted and/or stigmatism and such. And on top of that there is an adjustable focal length lens. The result is ALL of your field of view is adjusted to meet your need. Accomodation is done manually so you do dial in your need.

I am saving up to get a pair. But I am practicing taking care of the glasses I have, not being use to glasses, before I buy a pricy pair.

When I was in jr. high, I accidentally poked myself in the eyeball with an ice pick, while trying to get a knot out of a strap on my backpack. Blood was oozing out of the white part of my eyeball right under the iris. I had to go in for emergency surgery, and have internal and external stitches on my eye. Had to wear a patch for several months.

Kept my vision, by some crazy stroke of luck. Just a millimeter or so in a different location, and I would have lost my eye. I still have floaters and squigglies in my vision because of some fluid on my lens, but I consider myself fortunate. Depth perception FTW!

There is a coffee shop on campus that is run by a blind guy and his family. He is the nicest, most upbeat guy that you'll ever meet. I've been buying coffee and sandwiches from him for 20 years and never knew the story behind his blindness. Evidently, he had two independent accidents involving a knitting needle and a pencil within months of each other when he was under 7 years old. Holy crap.

I had serious "coke bottle" glasses my whole young life. Started wearing contact lenses when I was 14. That was when "permalens" contacts came out. You could wear them for two weeks, sleep in them, just had to put eye drops in your eyes when you woke up. Being a teenager, I was lazy, so I think I must have worn them for up to six weeks before taking them out to clean them. Then all the news reports came out that sleeping in contact lenses could seriously damage your eyes. So I kept it up.

When I was 30 and had a baby. Any time the baby cried at night it took me about 8 extra seconds to find my coke bottle glasses at the bedstand. I thought "What if there's an earthquake? I'd be useless"
So I got Lasik.

My vision is 20-35. Pretty good considering I was basically legally blind before.

I just bought glasses to get back to 20-20. Hipster glasses as you guys would call them.
