View Full Version : Royals Royals 6 Game Win Streak REP Thread
The Royals won their sixth in a row tonight, the longest current winning streak in the league. They're now only 3 games out of 3rd place and 4.5 games out of 2nd in Central. It's not going to be something to brag about because Minnesota's running away with it, but the Royals could make a run at 2nd place. I would be more than happy if they finished somewhere out of the bottom at this point considering how poorly we've finished in the last few years.

It's amazing the kind of starting pitching they've gotten since the all star break (and before). Other than Suppan, they've been rock-solid, even the rookies.
Byrd pitches tomorrow, should be a decent shot at win #7 for the team, and with #13 (!!!) for him, although Buehrle gives us fits IIRC.
Another amazing part of it is that they're doing it without Mike Sweeney, who's missed the last four games because of injury. The lineup looks woefully weak without him in it, but guys like Ibanez and Brent Mayne have really picked up the slack.
It will be interesting tomorrow night, our best pitcher versus the Sox best arm, hopefully Byrdie will outduel Buehrle

Congrats to the Royals and the die-hards. I was beginning to think it was time to write off the season and they surprised me again.
Also helps when your pitching staff has the fourth-least runs against in MLB. If only we weren't the eighth-worst at scoring runs.

it will help confidence a ton and get us back above .500
fighting the mental aspect as much as anything
Hosmer is starting to hit a bit better
Moose and Frenchy are on the bench some
Moose and Hosmer still need get going though if we are really going to be serious at the end of the year.

So here's an honest question (long-term outlook thoughts, you sparked in me)...
Say Eric Hosmer eventually becomes John Olerud (.295/.398/.465) which seems like a more realistic "Ceiling" than his original "Ceiling" (Joey Votto).
That would require him to continue developing his OBP skills (which have been solid this year), raising his average a bit, and becoming a consistent 15-20 HR/40+ 2B guy.
Can the Royals win with THAT guy, rather than the one they were hoping he'd become?

Yes. Without the power, I think Hosmer's ceiling is Joe Mauer. If he can put up stats similar to Olerud, then we can win with that.

let's not get carried away yet
He brings credit to the coaching staff and some confidence we badly need but that doesn't mean it's going to last. It could very easily just be a "bump".
besides i doubt Brett wants to coach long term ... i imagine the rest of this season is all he wants
