Is clearly a scam. But I have sent it on to Pay Pal on 3 occasions and never hear a thing back. Id assume they give a damn about it but if they are that bad at followup with prospective clients and if their security is that bad...not sure I need their services.

Why would you send that to Paypal? Paypal can't do anything about it....it's from some 3rd party off in la la land just fishing for idiots that will supply their user name and password.

they'd appreciate your "report" a lot more if you were a member :)

I've used paypal a long long time. had a few transactions go shady, they helped it get resolved to my satisfaction every time. And, I've reported this kind of stuff in the past -- got responses every time as I recall, but I'm a member.

This. What's Paypal supposed to do? Go to Nigeria and remove your e-mail from some dude's mailing list? It's completely out of their control, and they have no responsibility to random people who aren't Paypal members that might be getting spam from who knows where...

Here is the page I get when I actually log INTO my paypal account. I have had paypal for 10 years. Anyone know if this is true?

PayPal is constantly working to ensure security by regularly screening the accounts in our system. We recently reviewed your account, and we need more information to help us provide you with secure service. We would like to return your account to regular standing as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.

What is the problem?

Jun 8, 2013 : Before we can offer you certain products and services, federal regulations require that we collect specific information to verify your identity. This information includes your name, address, date of birth, and National Tax ID or Social Security number. We haven't been able to verify your identity using the information you provided, so we need some additional documentation from you.

Until this issue is resolved, you'll be able to log in to your PayPal account but you might not be able to add money to it or use some of your account features.

(Your case ID for this reason is PP-002-408-199-397.)

How can I return my account to regular standing?
It's usually pretty easy to take care of things like this. Most of the time, we just need a little more information about your account or latest transactions.

To help us resolve this issue, please go to the Resolution Center.

We'll review the information you provide and email you if we need more details.

Once you complete all of the checklist items, your case will be reviewed by one of our Account Specialists. We will send you an email with the outcome of the review.

The checklist includes:

Photo ID
Proof of address
SSN

I don't mind the first two but SSN???....that doesn't seem legit although they say it is for tax purposes?

I'm certain they only get 300-400k responses like yours a day. I'm not sure why they haven't stopped by for a chat.

I am calling them about it. I won't post it online.

She said if you try to add money, the government is doing account matching with either SSN or Tax IDs based off new federal regulations. They are actually doing it to verify identities to accounts and addresses to counter an increase in identify thefts with people opening Paypal accounts with other's names and social security numbers.

Mine didn't start as an email. It was the opening page of my paypal account as I logged in. So I contacted their 1-800 number to verify. I would never respond to something like that in an email and I suggest others take the extra time to verify things over the phone by contacting the company direct, not through email.
