There were about 5-7 of us that used to go every year when TC was in RF.
...when the Cassel trade happened, we decided we wouldn't have any interest in going till he was gone. Hopefully, Alex is a big upgrade.

Any suggestions for hotels, restaurants and kid activities in the area?

This. St Joe has put their best foot forward - more concessions, play area for the kids & a huge fan shop. But, it's just not the same as RF.

A lot of my feelings on that are based on issues out of MO West's control - the heat, the CBA knocking practice down to once a day, Pioli being so restrictive with access etc.

As I understand it there will be only one practice each day open to the public. It will start around 8:30 am. At River Falls there were usually two a day. We went to the am practice and then ate a nice lunch at Hudson or Stillwater, did some shopping (to make the wife happy), took a nap and then went to the late afternoon practice. One a day's especially if they do not wear pads is hardly worth the effort. Besides in RF there were usually only 100-300 at each practice. No crowds. I doubt that we will ever go to St. Joseph. You cannot even get close like with Shotenheimer's Oklahoma drill.

32 enter, one wins.

Disregarding the efforts of the other 31 is ludicrous. The most talented team in the NFL didn't win Super Bowl 47.

The "Hottest" team in the NFL won Super Bowl 47 and quite frankly, that's usually the case.

In River Falls you could get up close during the practices and you were literally feet away from the action. In St. Joe you are quite a bit farther away. And there was alot less people as well.

Add in the shitty MO weather in August and the NFL changing the practice rules and I don't think it was worth the time. But that is just my opinion.

I went when they held practices @ William Jewel College years ago.
It was AWESOME,FREE,parking(if you could find someplace within a mile or so),FREE admission,pre-practice warmups were cool as hell cuz you could talk to the players b4 it started.
When it all ended for the day ,players would be walking toward the locker room when you could get pics and have a chat with them.
These are the few names from that era(early 80s),Christian Okoye,Stephone Page,Steve DeBerg and many others pics were taken of and passed on to family as mementoes.

Casa de Nzoner, free bed and shower as long as you bring the beer.

You seem like a cool enough cat. You may be receiving a pm from me in a couple weeks, Nzoner, for the dude I am making the trip from Southeast Iowa with is looking into hotels that are pricier than my wife would prefer (we are penny-pinchin' like whoa now that we are in nursing school). Bringing beer will not be a problem...what kind of beer do you drink?

Not to turn this into a St Joe thread, but I'm heading up at least once this year. I figure practice will wrap up early afternoon. What are some places around St Joe to do some afternoon damage? I'm thinking bars with pool, shuffleboard, darts, lowly arcade games, in need of a Bar Rescue, that kind of thing.

I've been to Uncle D's last year, it was ayight, but I'm not trying to sit in there for the Lake and Bink show.

I went last year (family fun day) and a couple of thoughts I had were:
-Winston looked like he was both out of shape and completely unmotivated
-Cassel looked nervous and disgruntled
-despite all the love Baldwin was getting he looked like crap on the field
-Charles looked completely recovered and ready to go while Berry and Moeaki did not
-the team as a whole looked complacent

So if nothing else it is possible to glean a few things about the team from attending.
My 2 cents...

Your house must be 2 Legit 2 Quit. I'm assuming it's a pretty big place.

I'm thinking of taking my 2 baby brothers with me (ages 16 and 14). Would that be cool? Our clan isn't picky in terms of what we sleep on....in other words, we'd all three be more than cool with sleeping on the floor.

Better have biscuits and gravy and Bloody Mary specials with practice being 830 in the morning.

I did enjoy a beer tower or three at Uncle D's last year.

We have a pond that's about the same size. Stocked it full of catfish, bass, blue-gill, green sunfish and a few walleye we've caught on the river/drainage ditches.

What kind of gear should I bring? I don't know if we'll have room to bring my poles in my friend's Cadillac that we are taking, but I can bring my tackle box...should I bring primarily bass gear or catfish gear? Or a combination?
