View Full Version : Football Hall of Fame?

Something different for a change. Do you think Eli Manning or Ben Rothlisberger will get into the Hall of Fame? Both won the superbowl twice and are starting quarterbacks for storied franchises for quite some time. I think there shouldn't but probably will. Hall of Famers should be difference makers and there are not. If Eli Manning ended up in San Diego or Ben Rothlisberger ended up in Cleveland neither of them would be in a discussion about it. Lets put it way if Eli Manning were the starting qb for the chiefs there wouldn't be a lock of the play offs or competing for the superbowl. If you would put Tom Brady or Peyton Manning in as chiefs qb there would.

I don't think they're first ballot HOFers, but they'll get in none-the-less.

Yep. It's a QB's game these days. If you win multiple SB's at the helm (and assuming you play an active role rather than being someone like Rex Grossman who mostly just benefitted from being on a great team), you're in.

I'm a long time NYG fan, watched Eli go from suck to troll. they both are pretty amazing athletes. I'll wait until they've ended their careers.

I picked neither and both.

Why?

Because of poll fail.

Does Ben Roethlsberger strike anyone as belonging there with his bust next to Unitas and Montana and Marino, etc?

No. He has been an above average quarterback who was drafted into one of the best run organizations there is. He's won two Super Bowls, one of which he was terrible in and he did not play particularly well in the other one - he was massively outplayed by Kurt Warner.

If you look at the Giants and the Steelers over their careers, Manning the biggest part of who the Giants are. The Steelers are the biggest part of who Roethlisberger is.

Not if you are Jim Plunkett

Super Bowl XV MVP
1970 Heisman Trophy
1970 Pop Warner Trophy
1971 UPI AFL-AFC Rookie of the Year
1980 NFL Comeback Player of the Year
2× Super Bowl champion (XV, XVIII)

I've always wondered how Steve Young made the Hall of Fame, and Jim Plunkett hasn't. They were successful for a short period of time, but Plunkett won an extra SB. Not that I dont think Young wasnt deserving, but Plunkett was solid as hell. If Kurt Warner gets in it looks even worse.

TD-INT 164-198

QB Rating 67.5

These stats hurt Plunkett

Both of Plunketts parents were legally blind as well , I personally can't think of a better snub for the HOF... Not saying he should have been first ballot but damn

Manning will make it because he's a Manning and they always get their way. He was able to force his way onto a playoff team against the best interests of the league, so he'll always have an easier ride than real football players who man up and go where they're drafted.

Roethlisberger won't, in my opinion. The off-field stuff will hurt him and he's borderline to start with, assuming that he doesn't bring home a couple more trophies.

I recognize that the standards are pretty low for quarterbacks, but Ben hasn't been close to being the top QB during his career. He's well behind PManning, Brady, and Rodgers, and is duking it out with a bunch of other QBs for the top of the second tier.

Now, you may be right that he'll make it, but it's only because the HoF favors QBs to a ridiculous degree.

True, but being a Steeler and possessing the rings is more than half the battle.

Hall of Fame ... just doesn't really mean much, at least to me. Number of championships won is really what matters. Each have 2 which is very respectable..

Didn't Len Dawson have pedestrian stats? He missed almost half the season the year they won the SB.
