View Full Version : Poop Planning trip to Colorado

The Mrs. and I will be in Colorado for the last two weeks in October. Part of this is work related, but we have another week to fill.

Any suggestions? We are scheduled to visit Estes Park and Boulder. I'm actually going to be stuck in Boulder for a week so if anyone has suggesting let me know.

Would like to find something cool to do in or near Denver near the end of the trip. Fire away!

Seriously, we need an "official things to do in Colorado" thread.

Try and give us a starting point about the kinds of things you're looking for.

I need help filling up a couple of days in and around Denver. I have all the outdoors crap covered, need some entertainment ideas for the Denver area. We are not interested in the club scene, but like good music, great restaurants, local attractions.

Nature and Science museum is wonderful. Take a stroll through city park after. Biker Jims for a quick lunch. 16th st. mall your wife will probably like. Elitch gardens if you like amusement/water parks. Garden of the gods would be a short trip south closer to the Springs.

Walk down Colfax if you want real adventure

Trail Ridge Road is a must see. Spend as much time there as you can because it's so phenomenal. Estes is nice but very touristy we always just spend a day there and go instead to Grand Lake which is spectacular. Colorado Springs is not far from there and it's worth the trip. Garden of the Gods is free and quite beautiful and the trip up Pike's Peak is fun now that it's all paved and I don't shit my pants driving on winding gravel roads with little room for error.

If you are willing to drive an hour or so west on I-70 you should check out Frisco. It is a larger, nicer version of Estes.

If Casa Bonita is still there, that place is awesome. Also the Kansas Highway Patrol is notorious now for catching people coming back to Kansas on I70 with weed. Alot of times they set up shop not too far from the boarder and get you. And DO NOT try the Old Highway 24 trick either, they are on to that as well.

Casa Bonita is an experience for sure, but calling it awesome is a stretch. The food there is average at best.

Go ride the D&RG narrow gauge railroad from Durango to Silverton. Its one the most spectacular train rides through the mountains this country has to offer, & the fall colors of the trees just add to that.

Yep, the location is the killer. I looked into it the last time we were in Colorado and we would've had to burn up almost two days of our vacation to do that.

southwest co is by far the prettiest part of colorado. telluride/silverton/ouray/durango area. october is alil late to head down there though to camp and hike around. plus a 7 hour drive. stick to the front range.

Casa Bonita is swell if you're 10 or under. As an adult, it's only great if you're into standing in an amusement park-like line for 2 hours to eat the most uninspired, cafeteria-like "mexican" food on the planet. To compare the food with Taco Bell is an insult to Taco Bell.

Best description of Casa Bonita? It's what would result if Disneyland had sex with Tijuana.

I'd bypass Estes Park at the end of October. Half the town closes down after the summer season.
