View Full Version : Chiefs Eric Fisher has signed

Rams Fan

The first overall pick was one of the last first-round picks to agree to terms. But it’s better late than never, especially when it’s not really late.

Per a league source, the Chiefs and tackle Eric Fisher have struck a deal.

We’re told he’s heading to camp, where he will sign the contract and then participate in the team’s first training-camp practice.

The deal is expected to include offset language, but the term is likewise expected to be offset with other benefits for Fisher. More to come on the details later.

No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms on a five-year contract, a league source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Fisher's deal is for $22.2 million and includes a $14.5 million bonus, sources tell ESPN's Andrew Brandt.

Yeah , but we just cut Marty Gilyard so it's a wash.

What is the deal with Mardy Gilyard?

Rams: Drafted at top of 4th round, released at final cutdown.

Jets: Signed Sept 4, 2011, released 5 days later.

Eagles: Signed in off-season, released August 31st.

Eagles: Signed Sept. 11, 2012, released 2 months later on Nov. 23rd.

Jets: Signed Nov. 28th, 2012, waived less than a month later on Dec. 24th 2012.

Chiefs: Signed during off season, released before training camp.

On the one hand, the guy never lasts anywhere very long as if he's a monumental fuckup. But on the other hand, both the Jets and the Eagles brought him back for a second time.

Fisher will catch $10 million within five days
Posted by Mike Florio on July 26, 2013, 3:02 PM EDT

In the end, the first pick in the 2013 draft cried uncle on the issue of offsets. In exchange, he’s getting a ton of money up front.

Per a league source with knowledge of the deal, Eric Fisher will receiver $10 million in the next five days from the Chiefs under the contract he signed within the past hour.

(Only George Clooney can get $10 million faster than that.)

Not many teams have a habit of turning over that much cash that quickly. Sure, players “earn” their signing bonuses upon signing the contracts. But it’s one thing to sign the paper and quite another thing to collect it.

The $10 million to be paid in five days is part of a $14.518 million signing bonus. The rest of the money will be paid in full by February 15, 2014.

Fisher also has minimum base salaries ($405,000 in 2013, $495,000 in 2014, $585,000 in 2015, and $675,000 in 2016) along with training-camp roster bonuses of $918,659 in 2014, $1,837,318 in 2015, and $2,755,977 in 2016.

The deal is fully guaranteed for injury, skill, and salary cap. And while it includes offset language, first-round offensive linemen rarely if ever are cut within four years. (Even Tony Mandarich, the biggest offensive lineman bust in league history, made it three years with the Packers.)

So Fisher traded a term that most likely will be irrelevant for him in exchange for $10 million now, $4.518 million soon, and the ability to double dip in the highly unlikely event he gets cut at some point between the start of training camp and the start of a regular season.

This is what is wrong with the NFL, you get paid on potential, "potential," and not on your production.

Every draft pick should make league minimum, with the bonus amount received dependent upon where you went in the draft, pick #1 gets a much beefier bonus than pick #100 and so forth.

I'm pretty sure this language for Fisher getting all this money immediately is a ploy for him to get Albert out the door. He'll go to collect his check and will be like, "That'll be 1 billion pennies, please." Then he'll show all the money to Albert just to piss him off until Albert says, "No fucking way I'm coming back to this shit show next year."

Before you know it, Fisher gets his starting LT job that he wanted.
