View Full Version : Food and Drink Casey's General Store Kicks Subway's Ass

There's a new Casey's about a mile from where I work in JoCo.

They make subs like Subway or Goodcents. They have a ham and cheese sub, foot long (a true foot long) with all the veggies for $5. And they load it up, at least twice the meat you get at the other joints. The Goodcents out here is notoriously cheap. They slice the deli meat razor thin, and put on the smallest amount of veggies possible. They're really cheap and give you a lousy sandwich.

Casey's also makes pizza and wraps and such. Very good value for the buck.

Casey's used to follow the Walmart model. Small towns and rural areas where they could fill a void. Now, Casey's is invading JoCo like crazy. I know of two new-ish stores. One on Johnson Drive and another on Quivira. Another one is planned for SM Parkway with more on the way.

Some of the Goodcents are better than others. The Goodcents on Noland Road in Independence makes a pretty good sandwich. The one in Overland Park near where I work is chinzy. Everyone in my office has quit going there because the sandwiches are so meager. If you ask for tomato, for example, they slice them razor thin, and try to put on the fewest possible slices to cover. And they do that with all the veggies. It's almost comical how cheap they are.

The one near where I work is on Quivira. It's brand new, nice store.

I spend a lot of time in Lexington, MO. It's a little Missouri River town about 45 mins east of KC. They have a Casey's and is the best place to get pizza there.

SHREDDED MOZZARELLA CHEESE -WHOLE MILK MOZZARELLA (PASTEURIZED MILK, CHEESE CULTURES, SALT, ENZYMES), POWDERED CELLULOSE (TO PREVENT CAKING), POTASSIUM SORBATE AND NATAMYCIN (PRESERVATIVES).

Crust is the most worthless part of a pizza, which you put up with only because something has to hold the toppings. If I could order crustless, I would.

Thin Crust is the correct type of crust to order for a pizza.

You're entitled to your opinion, but just know that you're probably in the 10% here that don't care about the texture or flavor of their pizza crust.

We also have a group called the twelve tribes that have a cafe called the common ground here in town. They make FUCKING AWESOME SANDWICHES. I had me a deli rose today as a matter of fact.

The Goodcents here loads on the meat. I eat there a lot though so maybe they're nice considering I'm loyal. Sadly I eat there so much for lunch the people that work there know who I am and know what I want since I only order the same thing usually.

Pennyclub is now on their $5 footlong list, when it didn't used to be on there....Pennyclub w/ standard dress and provolone cheese on wheat. That's the good stuff man. Goodcents bread trumps the other guy's bread. Subway bread is fucking awful and Jimmy Johns just sucks as a whole. Used to live behind one (literally in my backyard) when I was living in Columbia and I ate there a lot because coming home drunk from the bars at 1-2am with the munchies they were still open, very convenient I must say at the time lol, but I've grown to hate it now because I've gotten tired of it.

Though I've never had Casey's subs so I'll have to check them out sometime. Love their pizza by the slice on the go. Dunno If I'd order a full one though...usually if I want hot fresh pizza from a restaurant I'll pay the extra money so I can have really kickass pizza like from Tim's or Funhouse. Or just the $1 Totino's frozen pizzas at the local HyVee.

The one near where I work is on Quivira. It's brand new, nice store.

I spend a lot of time in Lexington, MO. It's a little Missouri River town about 45 mins east of KC. They have a Casey's and is the best place to get pizza there.

Maid-Rite used to be my favorite there in my very younger days.

They clearly post what percent ethanol their fuel contains. I don't know what "a lot" is, but they don't use any more than any other gas station. At least in Iowa.

That Diamond Shamrock/Valero on 6th in KCMO up from Grand Slam churned out some of the best fried food I've had. Two types of chicken strips, mini tacos, burritos, tri tators, jalapeno poppers, you name it, they fried it. I think it's a Phillips 66 now, but I haven't been inside in years to know if they still do it.

Walked down and got it, so dug in about 10 minutes after it came out.

Very good, sauce was flavorful but not overpoweringly ranch, big pieces of chicken and bacon. Tons of cheese. Could have used 2 more minutes in the oven.

They have some beautiful newer stores in small towns here in Illinois. I have never had the sandwiches, but the stuff looks as good or better than Subway. We aren't talking about out of the beer cooler ham and cheese. I just don't think the pizza is all that like some say.

Ah but you mistake me!

He ate a sandwich out of a gas station which was infested with worms which made him super strong/smart etc.

That is what I was referring too.

Score out of 10?

Out of ten an 8.

Needed that 2 extra minutes because it was so bacony and cheese the center was a little underdone.

Had that been done an 8.5 . Better than Pizza Huts version.

Better than Pizza Huts version.

Frozen pizza is better than Pizza Hut. Grocery store take and bakes are better than Pizza Hut, especially Costco.

I seriously can't figure out why Pizza Hut is even in business.

Oklahoma Joe's, Lutz's BBQ, Casey's...

I'll eat food from a gas station before I'll eat anything from a fast food window.

And grocery store/drug store sushi can be like...playin roulette, y'know.

Crust is the most worthless part of a pizza, which you put up with only because something has to hold the toppings. If I could order crustless, I would.

Thin Crust is the correct type of crust to order for a pizza.

you can order crustless. It's called stew or onion soup

Out here in Denver we have very few Casey's. Up on the north end of town we have Ricca Pizza. This guy knows how to cook a mean pie. He is from Chicago but he knows most of us out here like a thinner crust. Shit, I could go to the store and get a loaf of bread and put sauce on it. That don't make a pizza!

Broke down and tried a sub at Casey's just out of curiosity, and it wasn't bad! I tried their Club Combo, and they definitely weren't skimpy on the meat. From the side, it was 2/3 meat and cheese to 1/3 veggies, which is the inverse of what you typically get at Subway or the others.

Definitely a solid "bang for your buck" alternative if you just want a basic sub.

Most of them are $7 now. I think only the meatball one is still $5 – which I used to love as a teenager but doesn’t do it for me anymore.

and I'm sure that Lutz's rolls through enough that they get a discount on bulk.
