View Full Version : Football Ever hear of this before? Raiders / Chargers swapping home dates

Raiders were supposed to host Oct 6 (Week 5) and Chargers were supposed to host Dec 22 (Week 16).

http://blog.sfgate.com/raiders/2013/09/06/raiders-will-switch-chargers-home-away-dates/

Been on the phone with Raiders, National Football League and Major League baseball officials, and it’s a very safe bet that the Raiders will switch their home and away dates with the Chargers this season.

Oakland was supposed to host the San Diego Chargers on Oct. 6 but the Oakland A’s could very well be using the O.co Coliseum field for baseball playoff games. Games 1 and 2 of the American League Divisional Series are Oct. 4th and 5th. Game 3 is on Oct. 7.

The Raiders have a two-week window before the game to make the switch, but waiting until Sept. 22 won’t clear up anything (unless the A’s lose 14 games in a row). The A’s are a half-game back of Texas in the AL West and tied with Tampa Bay in the wild-card standings.

The NFL and MLB are both pushing for the switch to be made sooner than later.

So, the Raiders will now travel to San Diego on Oct. 6 and then host the Chargers on Dec. 22. The switch would give Oakland three straight home games against division rivals to close out the season.

Pending an official announcement … which should be coming sooner than later.

MLB wouldn't move a game to accommodate the season opener, screw them.

wouldn't happen if they had 2 decent places to play in oakland.

Can't even get 1.

I guess its a benefit for both teams in that it's one less game they each have to play with a baseball diamond on the field.

Three straight home games to end the season will be nice when they're fighting for that playoff spot.... Or looking to keep their blackout's alive.

Since very few Kansas City teams ever reach a playoff game, Why would we hear of local teams having to accommodate anyone?

If I were a Raven fan I'd disown the Orioles for that crap they pulled in not accommodating for their supposed to be home opener for the Super Bowl champion. The city should be ashamed of the Orioles.

I don't get why they couldn't just play a doubleheader the next day.

So 500 people instead of 300 in attendance? How's that any different than in Oakland lol.

No you wouldn't. You would love them for their run last year and for their chance this year.

A doubleheader when your playoff lives are on the line. No way in hell I would agree to that if I was the Orioles.

Does my response not show that I know that? You expect a team trying to get into the playoffs to play a doubleheader in the last month of the season and blow up all their pitching so a team in another sport gets a home game? Changing the time of the game I understand. Expecting them to then play 2 games in 1 day during a playoff race is crazy.

More Raider fans at San Diego games. San Diego only has fans that live in the area. If those people lived in Jacksonville or Cleveland they'd be Jags or Browns fans.

I wish Oakland had a quality team. Divisional games/races are much more fun when 2 or more of the teams are solid.

Seriously. I really hope Oakland can become a good team. Division games between teams that are both looking at 6-10 ceilings aren't as entertaining. I'd love for the AFC West to be the premier division in the NFL.

It'll never happen as long as the Raiders are in Oakland.

They have no chance of competing in that town because there just isn't enough money to make them competitive.

I was thinking the Olathe Raiders. That way you'll really get that Jackson Co./Johnson Co. rivalry in full swing.

So they aren't switching the game to San Diego, but they are quite possibly moving the game to 11:30 PM Eastern (8:30 PM local) and moving the game to NFL Network. Sunday we could literally have football ALL DAY.

http://www.csnbayarea.com/raiders/raiders-chargers-conflict-down-two-options?p=ya5nbcs&ocid=yahoo

The Oct. 6 game between the Raiders and Chargers will be played on that date.

The NFL has narrowed their focus down to two options, now that the Oakland Athletics have locked up home-field advantage in the postseason. The game will either be played as scheduled around 1 p.m., or it will be played at 8:30 p.m., depending on the start time of the A's second playoff game.

The A's will play Game 2 of their ALDS series at the Coliseum on Oct. 5, and it will take significant time to convert the ballpark to a football stadium. The game cannot be broadcast during the window for NBC Sunday Night Football, hence the 1 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. options.

If the game is played in the evening, it will likely be broadcast on NFL network.

Point is its not starting any later in California than they used to on the east coast.
