View Full Version : Chiefs Could Justin Houston really break the sack record?

I mean, we play some really, really, REALLY bad teams folks.

Bills
Browns
Giants OL is shaky
Raiders twice
Chargers twice (and their OL is just bad)
Broncos lost Clady and we play them twice
Titans

All he needs is 16 more sacks in 13 games. What have you?

He's faced two rookie tackles and disappeared agai`1nst Dallas. Slow thy roll.

15 sacks is probably a lock.

Yeah, the Bills are a good team this year, at least better than they have been. When you go right to the end with the Patriots you deserve a little respect. Giants aren't as bad as everyone keeps putting on, they've faced the Peytons and the Cowboys (which we only beat by 1 point). The only good thing about the Giants is they're turnover proned. I would honestly not be surprised if we swept the NFC East this year. Which would be great!

As far as Houston, yeah he could be dominant, but the sack record..... eh. Let's just worry about winning games, if we're winning games, he'll get up there.

Houston will never equal Miller in sacks because he's too good in coverage.

Period. Put that argument down. Houston will never rush the passer as much as Miller (in a full season.)

That said Houston is the better overall player. Miller is not the beast Houston is in coverage or vs. the run...

You can't say enough about dontari Poe. Was drawing so much attention tonight. He will make the road to a Houston sack record that much easier.

The Cowboys dedicated all sorts of resources to Hali and Houston to slow them down.

So Poe comes up with 2 sacks.

Then the Eagles dedicated all sorts of resources to Poe to slow him down.

So Hali and Houston rape off the edge.

This is a fun year to love defense if you're a Chiefs fan.

He disappeared against DAL because Tony Romo got the ball out in about 2 seconds for the majority of the game, esp in the 2nd half.

Yes I think it's a real possibility he gets it. Our defense IMO barring injury is going to get better and better.

If he only needs 16 in the next 13 games then he's def on pace to destroy that. I can't imagine how many sacks he'll have against the Browns, Raiders, Titans, and Chargers. I think he can get at least 10 in just those 4 games alone (I'm not even counting the fact we're playing OAK and SD 2x), and we still have 9 more games to play.

The crazy thing to me, is that Houston is so good that we almost forget sometimes (or I do) that Tamba Hali is on the other side of him. We have to have the arguably best rushing tandem in the NFL. This is our Strahan and Uymenyora(sp).

suzzer99
09-20-2013, 09:43 AM
Why? Just out of pity?

I think they took away the sack where Houston pushed the tackle back into Vick and he fell down. Which seems pretty bogus to me, that should count as a sack. Hali got a sack completely on his own that was not in dispute, so he didn't get Houston's sack.

MagicHef
09-20-2013, 10:05 AM
Something I noticed:

50% of Poe's pressures are sacks
46% of Houston's pressures are sacks
5% of Hali's pressures are sacks, but he leads the league in pressures.
(13% is league average)

Both Poe and Houston are not so great in pressures per pass rushing snap (Houston is 19th for 3-4 OLBs, and Poe is 39th for DT/NTs), but obviously both are doing very well getting sacks. Essentially, when they rush the passer, they are getting sacks, or they are not affecting the play at all.

Why is this? Is this due to the scheme?

It would actually be more impressive if it were true.

Houston hit 20 sacks in his 35th game.
JJ Watt hit 20 in 27 games.
Aldon took 24 games.
Von took 23 games.

I'm pretty sure he meant to say he was talking about the Chiefs.

Still impressive because he wasn't rushing the passer all that much his first two years due to the ancient scheme we were running.

I wouldn't be surprised if Justin Houston ties or surpass Derrick Thomas sack record with 7 or get 8 sacks in a game. If he gets 6 and they shut him down like Marty and Gunther did DT against Oakland Raiders when he got 6 I'm a gonna be

The fact that the shitbag coordinators we have had could only get 30 or so out of this defense is an atrocity.

The only thing standing between Houston and epic sack #'s is incompetent coaching and being too valuable in the passing game.

He's a freak with DE strength and OLB speed...

ia am thinking Mr Poe and Tj finally kicking it up will only help Houston, and then there is Hali on the other side, DJ and berry also run mean blitzes, think the chiefs offer a lot of problems for pass protection, he get's it this year or next year

Is it just me or did Tjack look like he wanted to kill someone when he bullrushed Vick? He was driving his man back nearly every play, being held nearly every play and was throwing him on the ground.

Maybe all the bad reviews on his career has made him snap into beast mode-lol :hmmm:

I think that's a perfect window to his play.

For 4 years we hired personalities and not coaches.

Almost all of our 1st round picks were stagnant (save Berry.)

This defense is the perfect scheme for a guy like TJax.

In fact I'd argue he'll be attacking more in this scheme than the DE's in Pitt's D do and most people base success off of their production in the 3-4...

With Hali on one edge and Houston on the other, this pass rush is incredible. Oh yeah, almost forgot. "Dontario" Poe is beasting too, giving us push up the middle and someone the defense has to worry about as well. Then we have DJ in the middle of the defense, and he can really do it ALL. Cover, blitz, shut down the run. Seems we have solid role players in Devito, Jackson, and Jordan to round out an amazing front 7.

All of that with a pretty incredible secondary. Flowers and Berry are two of the best at their respective positions. Sean Smith is pretty good, Robinson is solid, and I still think Lewis is pretty decent. They're becoming arguably the best D in the league.

Another thing that makes my penis erect. Look at the ages of our staters on defense.

Justin Houston - 24
Tamba Hali - 29
Derrick Johnson - 30
Akeem Jordan - 28
Dontari Poe - 23
Mike DeVito - 29
Tyson Jackson - 27
Eric Berry - 24
Brandon Flowers - 27
Sean Smith - 28
Kendrick Lewis - 25

Average age of our defensive starters: just over 26 years old. We should have a good defense for a long time.

The Titans have a great combination of tackles.

Plus, I haven't rewatched the tape or anything, but Houston held at the LOS a lot more instead of charging up field.

It looks like they were running "contain" passrushes all game, instead of going far wide outside. They were treating Fitz like you would Michael Vick, and tried not to give him any lanes to escape.

Always hurts your sack numbers. But Hali was absolutely crushing Roos all game, pushing him right into Fitz. Houston just didn't show up.

Yeah, he definitely blew the shit out of that one.

To be fair though, the long run by Battle and the 20+ yarder to Fitz were both to the left side. Tamba was rushing upfield leaving huge lanes for Fitz to take off through.

What happened?Don't be fooled. They had a bad quarter. That's pretty much the sum of it. Fitz had like 30 yards passing in the first half. 248 total for the game and probably 200 of that was in the 3rd quarter, mostly on broken plays. Ditto for the runs. Battle had one nice 37 yard carry in the 2nd quarter. He and Chris Johnson combined for 18 yards on their other 15 carries.

It was a lot like the Philly game, yardage off of broken plays (and missed sacks), counter-balanced by forced turnovers. Need to clean up the tackling a bit, especially on the QB.

Houston did get credited with one sack. I don't remember when it was, though.
