This is the first house that I've lived in where I have to take care of the lawn and it's a mess. I thought that all I needed to do was mow regularly and spray a few weeds down with walmart brand weed killer.

I didn't know what areation or 6 step programs was and my lawn is mess because of it. I can't kill weeds fast enough. The ones that I do come back to life it seems. It's by no means covered with weeds but there are a few patches in front, and a large one on the side.

I need professional help. I had some landscaping done and the guy offered to aerate for 500.00 which seems extremely high.

Can anyone recommend a good local company? There are so many lawn companies to pick from in the area.

What weeds are me talking about? It can be real hard to nuke everything without turning your entire lawn into a brown mess.

Most times mixing up some Round Up works.

Try this. I should leave you ok, but it is going to be winter before long, so who cares anyway?

"Treated lawn areas can be reseeded in 7 days"

Just putting it out there before someone comes and talks trash.

Ryan Lawn and Tree. The owner lives in my neighborhood and has always treated me right. In fact, he goes above and beyond for me. I won't go into the details, but he does a lot of stuff that I don't always have to pay for, just as a courtesy.

I also had them do my sprinkler installation, and I couldn't be happier.

So, that's my recommendation. They aren't the cheapest, but they all know what they're doing.

I'm not sure to be honest. Quite a bit of different things. I'll take some pictures and match them up on line.

From what I've been told, it's a great time to reseed?

Just go with the natural prairie look and tell everyone you are xeriscaping your lawn. It's way easier, although the hay fever might be rough.

Uh, yeah, $500 to aerate is fucking absurd.

Seems so. How big is the property?

You don't need to aerate. I never have and lawn does great. Just go to grass pad late next February and buy the Idiot Proof Lawn Care system. And then repeat every year, with occasional overseeding in the fall.

$500 to aerate, I'd never use that landscaper again. Check craigslist, can get it for $75-$100.

Craigslist for aerating. You can also rent one and do it yourself.

Don't know if KC has trugreen. For lawn treatment, I can't say enough about their results. It's expensive, and they try to oversell you a lot of shit, but it works.

I have Trugreen in KC. They came out an aerated my lawn and dropped seed on the hottest week of the year. Very little took. Also, they never gave me a service schedule. I'll just come home to an invoice in my door. Not really a big deal, but I keep a pretty stern budget and like more than a couple days notice on a $150 invoice.

I would put some kind of weed and feed down in the fall and then a pre-emergent in the Spring. You'd be surprised how quickly the grass can come back and start choking the weeds out. A lot of weeds are just annual type. They'll die over the winter, and then if you put some type of weed protection down in the spring it will keep them from coming back.
I'm no expert but that's what I did on my lawn when I moved to our new house. The yard was like 80% weeds in the front when I moved in. Now it's all grass. Of course rabbits ruin it anyway.

depending on the size of my next yard, I'm seriously considering this. at least for the front.

PM Duck Dog. He owns a lawn care company and is a great guy. His company is based in Johnson County as well.

I just killed my entire backyard. The previous owners didn't do much yard work either. I will have someone come aerate it in a day or two. My brother had a guy do his yard for just $50 after seeing a sign on the road in his neighborhood for it. Way cheaper than some company and way easier than renting a machine and doing it yourself.

and Zoysia; if you can tolerate the late green-up.
my first house had it in the front; shit was like carpet. so thick my mower would slide around on it.

though, I needed to aerate at least once a year.
