....beat opponents by 35 or more...be fined $200 and...coaches...suspended from all league activities for two weeks.

How about they fine teams for sucking?

Well it sounds like if you're up by 35 the game is over.

Maybe they should make a rule that any teams up by 28 must use Matt Cassel at quarterback for the remainder of the game.

So if you've put in the backups and they still are blowing them out, do you then punt on first down or let the other team score?

No...just lay down.

Just sounds like a somewhat ridiculous (fines? really?) extension of the mercy rule in little league, which I remember from 20+ years ago.

It'd be kind of funny to just pull your defense and let them score, and then put your offense out there and score, and then repeat.

Start taking a knee in the 3rd quarter. I'm sure that won't make the losing team feel humiliated, at all.

Stupid. Make it like the ten run rule and end the game if that's what you want.
But fining coaches? Beyond ridiculous.

When my kids played youth football there was a mercy rule, set at 35 points. There is a set of procedures to follow at a 35 point differential which are outlined in the official rulebook. There are punishments that the league can hand down for coaches who violate the rules but that's only done in situations where the coach is obviously being a dick.

Here's a link to the NorCalFed rulebook:

I've never seen it become a problem. I can think of one instance off the top of my head where we scored after we were up by 35 but it was inadvertent. Our Head Coach had to write a letter to the league explaining the situation and it was fine.

No you put the smallest kids on your team out there in positions they've never played before. If you still keep scoring they aren't going to hold you accountable.

I'm guessing they had some coaches that were some pretty big assholes. I've seen teams up by 45 then still use onside kicks to try and get the ball back. Or call a timeout with 12 seconds left in the game so they could score one more time when they were winning 52-0.

Then you institute a mercy rule.
