His on pace stats would have been the following compared to last years stats.

14th in passing yards (in front of Flacco)
17th in completion percentage
Tied for 6th in TD's
Top 10 in fewest INT's thrown

What's good, is that you can see that the offense is still feeling its way out and can actually get better

Alex Smith has to be the only QB in the league that gets better when he starts throwing picks.

I think whether it was worth 2 picks or not is all relative. Look at what we had prior. If the goal is to win now and not waste the window of players like Hali and DJ then right now it appears it was worth it. We have to see how the season pans out though really but what it did do was give us a QB that is going to give us a chance every game.

The relevant thing here is the trend from week 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 today.

yes, it is

But it's also relative to the fact that we paid the 49ers two 2nd round picks for a bench player. A player that it looked like was going to get cut eventually.

I'm glad Alex Smith is playing well .. really glad.

I still think we lost the trade value part of it.

Benching Smith for Kaep right now isn't looking so good for San Fran. However, it was a good business decision by them to trade Smith when he was playing he best ball.

Kaep rode Smith's coattails to the SB last year. Smith was there the year before had the punt returner got the fuck out of the way.

Kaep has a strong arm and good legs but that's really it. Harbaugh I think was trying to pull a Pete Carrol and act like he got 1st round talent in a later round.

That may come back to haunt him

so Alex is like a Rich Gannon meets Trent Green clone

will be interesting to see if his level of play gets better and better into his 30s

Fans and media always love to "annoint" the hot, new thing before they have truly earned it. I remember when the media was eating up Romo and Rivers in their first years starting.

I'd say he is between the two. Manages the game like Green, runs like Gannon, makes Gannon type throws with Green's accuracy

I'm pretty happy with Alex so far. He seems to be much much better in the 4th quarter and we are winning games and thats what matters. Good thing Andy Reid doesn't get his advice from us experts.

Gannon type throws?

I don't recall Gannon ever really slinging it down field a lot like Green. Not when he was with us, anyway
