Anyway, we are not going to keep the record. We won't be able to keep up with Seattle and their acoustically designed stadium.

It doesn't matter, though.

We have the smartest football fans in the NFL. We know when to get loud. And we're really fucking loud. Opposing players know which stadium is the toughest place to play and that is all that matters to me.

Actually, I'm curious of others perspective... they were showing the decibel volume throughout the game and whenever they showed it, it didn't get over 111 db.

And at least 1/8 of the stadium was gone at the 2 minute warning in the 4th quarter.

It didn't seem anywhere nearly as loud... It was SO FUCKING LOUD in the 2nd quarter, though.

810 claiming it was sort of fake. Guy calls in and says he was in section 124 with the Guiness guys recording......it was only hitting 130-135, then the Guiness people moved up to a tunnel area late in the game and recruited ladies to come around and make more noise. sounds like Guiness wants to create a Seattle/KC controversy. Publicity is good for business.....

The best part (assuming it's true) is that we got there after so many people had left. My brother theorized that having all the silent people leave early left only the screamers which cut down on sound absorption.

Still, it was great. We weren't screaming for a record. We assumed we couldn't break it. We were screaming to fuck up the Raiders offense and it seemed to have some effect. That and the win was sweeter than the record.

We broke it in the 1st half. They withheld the announcement until the end to see if they could get a higher reading. People would have calmed down a bit if they'd made the announcement at half.

Build a stadium that makes artificial noise. ..promote apps that make noise for fans to use..and then act like you're loud. We've been doing this FOR DECADES. THE KINGDOM WASN'T HALF AS LOUD AS ARROWHEAD. ..BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT LOUD FANS...YOU NEEDED APPS AND A STADIUM THAT AMPLIFIES NOISE TO DO WHAT KC HAS DONE FOR DECADES. ..

I'm gonna spew some pure speculation that is probably complete bullshit, but...

Is it possible that having a few empty seats actually AMPLIFIED the volume? In other words, human bodies most likely absorb sound reasonably well, while concrete and plastic don't. By getting rid of some of the humans, maybe it actually allowed the sound to echo around the place even more than if the stadium were completely full.

Obviously, there would have to be some sort of tipping point; 10k fans obviously wouldn't get very close to the record in the stadium. But I could buy that the sound output of 80k people is not substantially more than 75k people (especially if those people are the types who don't yell as much based on their tendency to leave the game early) while the amplification factor would be slightly higher. Who knows - maybe that's enough to kick it over the mark.

My God the gold section does have a positive effect on home field advantage

Theory #2: It would seem likely that the sustained volume of the crowd would be well below the volume you could get with one, short shout. During the game, the crowd wouldn't be able to easily amplify after a being loud for 30 seconds prior. But if they weren't really all that amped up on that final drive (that was garbage time), the sudden burst at the INT could have been louder because everyone was comparatively rested up.

“It was out of control today,” Zach Aaron, game day engineer said. “It was the loudest thing I have ever heard for the longest time I have ever heard and that was also a concurrence from our Guinness World Records adjudicator. This stadium was constantly at 130 to 136 decibels. We had constant obliterating loudness.”
