coach John Fox defended quarterback Peyton Manning on Tuesday after Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said he was "disappointed" the Colts won only one Super Bowl with the former No. 1 overall pick. "You make the playoffs 11 times, and you're out in the first round seven out of 11 times. You love to have the 'Star Wars' numbers from Peyton and Marvin [Harrison] and Reggie [Wayne]. Mostly, you love this [ring]."

I saw that exchange. Can't quite figure out why Irsay would do that...

Irsay appears to be in the Jerry Jones mold of "no news is bad news". It's a silly comment to make, insinuating that it's easy to win in the playoffs and advance to the SB every other year.

I'm sure Elway enjoyed the comment as well, considering how much he really liked Irsay's father... this should be an interesting one. Irsay is also planning a little "appreciation ceremony" for Peyton prior to the game, I just can't imagine that he'll participate though.

I wonder if Fox will feel the same way after his team loses in the first round this year?

(i can dare to dream, right?)

Irsay tweets a lot. He also never met a television camera with a red light on that he didn't like.

Based on Peyton's previous play-off exits,it's okay to dream, hell it's not even a reach to think it could easily happen again.

I don't understand why this is a big deal other than ESPN needing content for their stupid shows.

Sure, down 24-17 vs NOS and the pick 6... lay that one on him.

Last year? You could easily put that blame on Moore late in the game, time the jump better and that isn't a TD reception. There were a few others as well, several big passing plays. I guess in my mind, there has to be a point where you accept that it's more than 1 guy that can lose a game for ya.

Fox owns last year. Taking a knee with 30 seconds and 2 time outs left and Manning as your QB so you can go to overtime? Insane. An all-time bad call.

Ya blame him because Indy was driving down to score and he fucked it up.

Peyton Manning is a choker, because he is only 9-11 in the playoffs and has gone one-and-done a record eight times.

They are valid criticisms though. Irsay should have just left it at the fact they should have built a more rounded team and they would have won more than one title. I think that was what he was trying to say. Instead it turned into a blame Peyton party very quickly.

Most associated with NFL teams never get a chance to play in the Superbowl let alone win one.

Per wikipedia regarding PM: He was chosen by the Indianapolis Colts with the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. From 1998 to 2010, he led the Colts to eight (seven AFC South and one AFC East) division championships, two AFC championships, and one Super Bowl championship (Super Bowl XLI). He has won a record four league most valuable player awards, was the most valuable player of Super Bowl XLI, has been named to twelve Pro Bowls, has twelve 4,000-yard passing seasons, and is the Indianapolis Colts' all-time leader in passing yards (54,828) and touchdown passes (399). In 2009, he was named the best player in the NFL, and Fox Sports, along with Sports Illustrated, named him the NFL player of the decade for the 2000s.

Not bad for a Indy team that only managed to make the playoffs three times and managed a combined regular season record of 88-136 in the 14 years that preceding PM's arrival.
