Didn't want to look for a thread, sorry.

@Edwerderespn: Jay Ratliff visited Dolphins yesterday in middle of Martin-Incognito fallout. Hearing he's likely to choose between Bears and Chiefs

He couldn't pass the Cowgirl's physical but he's healthy enough to pass ours? Wonder if he has anything left, could be a decent backup I guess.

I don't have a problem if it's just this year.

catapano is hurt and he could help

gives me flashbacks to Dan Williams though

as soon as he gets a big contract he turns to shit

@Edwerderespn: I'm told Bengals inquired about Jay Ratliff after Geno Atkins suffered season-ending knee injury. Timing not ideal. Ratliff needs 2-4 weeks

Hopefully he signs, probably won't be active for a few weeks but atleast he's depth. I also heard he and Jerry Jones didn't get along so that may have helped get him out of Dallas.

He's 32 years old.

He's cheap, and he plays a position of incredible importance.

Tyson Jackson, likely, will not be terribly cheap.

We've been incredibly blessed in regards to injuries. DeVito was banged up a bit...and Poe's been playing what...every snap? Adding Ratliff would be a nice insurance policy as the year progresses. He would also keep the other guys fresh.

I haven't been paying much attention to Toribio. But every time I see him, he looks like he brings nothing to the table.

Defensive lineman decline slower than skill positions, however. If he can play, let's find out.

The very best scenario is that we get a steal and a deal replacement for TJax, in the event we can't re-sign TJax.

You're not paying attention, then.

Toribio was a key component in the goal line stand in Tennessee.

Toribio is much more of a traditional fat-ass NT plugger, though, and an effective one at that. He's not the versatile game changer that Poe is.

Almost nobody is, though.

You're a fucking idoit. Seriously.

No one is handing over $4 million dollars to a 32 year old defensive lineman that hasn't taken a snap in more than a year. A linemen who's prime was five seasons ago.

Nobody has an idea of what kind of condition Ratliff is in, but he's very likely behind his competition. The bye week isn't likely enough time to make him available for Denver, and it's debatable if he'd even be playing meaningful rotation snaps by the end of the regular season.

Unless Reid and Dorsey are particularly dissatisfied with Toribio, this move isn't worth it.

DaneMcCloud

The idea of spending an additional $2 million against the salary cap because Tyson Jackson might want more than his current $4 million dollar salary next year, is quite literally the dumbest suggestion I've heard for retaining a player, ever.

Not only has Ratliff not played a meaningful down in years, giving him $2 million next year, THIS YEAR, reduces the amount that could be paid to retain Jackson by $2 million.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

RINGLEADER

If you're bringing him in for depth and insurance then a vet minimum or something like it is okay by me. I could see the logic of signing him to 2 years (min this year and some coin next) so we have dibs on him if he really performs, but frankly I think Cincy, who is reportedly talking to him and who has the DC that Ratliff played for in Dallas is going to throw stupid money at him because they're desperate.

In that case, no thanks. I'd rather keep who we have.

Ace Gunner

he hasn't play a down for the Cowboys in a season and they cut him. seems to me he is precisely the type of FA you want to stay away from, even if he passes your PE.

Jay Ratliff - DL - Bears
Bears signed DT Jay Ratliff to a one-year contract.
Ratliff was released by the Cowboys last month and is still recovering from a hamstring injury and sports hernia surgery. He likely won't be able to play for another 2-4 weeks, but will serve as a much needed upgrade at defensive tackle with Henry Melton out for the season. Ratliff also drew interest from the Bengals, Dolphins, and Chiefs before deciding to sign with the Bears.
