I think copper is a solid metal. It's plentiful and hardy. These gold and silver nuts are out of their gourds. I mean, people gonna steal your gold and silver, man. Who's gonna steal copper?
I think copper is a good, solid metal to use in exchange for goods and services. Ya'll dig?

During the Manhattan Project the government needed conductive metal to make the cyclotrons needed for isotope separation. Unfortunately, nearly all copper was going towards the war effort, as it is a major component in shells and ammunition of various types. As a work around they borrowed 14,000 tons of silver from the Treasury Department to provide the necessary material.
