Police: Man who died at Arrowhead was in a vehicle similar to one he arrived in
December 3
BY CHRISTINE VENDEL
The Kansas City Star

A Smithville man who was found in someone else’s Jeep and then died in a struggle outside Arrowhead Stadium Sunday had gone to the game in a similar vehicle that was parked nearby, police said Tuesday.

The Jeep also showed no signs of a break-in, leading police to believe it may have been left unlocked when Kyle Van Winkle, 30, climbed in and sat down.

Police released the additional details Tuesday as they continued to investigate what led to the death of Van Winkle, who had attended the Chiefs game against the Denver Broncos with relatives.

Detectives planned to interview relatives Tuesday to determine when they last saw him inside the stadium.

Police were called to Lot A of the Truman Sports Complex about 5:20 p.m. Sunday on a disturbance. Witnesses told police the Jeep owner had returned to his vehicle with his son, who is about 10 years old, when they realized a stranger was inside. The boy summoned help from several tail-gaters and they engaged in a struggle with Van Winkle, who had been sitting in the Jeep. Van Winkle collapsed and later died at a hospital.

Police did not say how Van Winkle died, but they said his body bore no signs of obvious injury.

Officers arrested three men shortly after the death, but they had to track down the fourth man who was arrested. Police searched one man’s home in Independence on Monday.

Detectives released three of the men Monday night and the fourth man Tuesday morning, pending further investigation.

Struggle at Arrowhead Stadium during game leaves 1 man dead

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A man is dead following a struggle in an Arrowhead Stadium parking as the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos played each other.

Kansas City police Chief Darryl Forte called it a homicide in a tweet. Other police officials called it a death investigation.

Police officials said the struggle occurred in Lot A during the game. The man was rushed to an area hospital where he died.

Forte said two suspects are in custody.

Police sources tell KCTV5 that a man and his son had gone to their vehicle during the game. When they arrived, they found another man rifling through the vehicle and a fight broke out. The man who apparently did not belong in the vehicle died.

Police officials did not say whether the two in custody were the father and his son or not.

This occurred exactly one year after Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed Kasandra Perkins, the mother of his infant daughter, and then drove to Arrowhead where he killed himself in front of horrified team leaders.

It's not "feeling sorry for anyone". It's trying to protect a civilized society that we've spent the better part of 500 years trying to move away from.

I'll allow the facts to be collected but this sounds like the "father/son" may be a bit more at fault due simply to the fact that they beat a man to death 2 on 1.

I don't find it funny at all. One of the issues that drove the creation of this country was personal property. If we can not defend that which we work to own and/or create, how long before we cannot defend ourselves (and there are plenty of people who already would like to have that taken away)? Struggle at Arrowhead Stadium during game leaves 1 man dead
Posted: Dec 01, 2013 7:11 PM CST Updated: Dec 01, 2013 7:51 PM CST
By DeAnn Smith, Digital Content Manager - email

KCTV5 is gathering more information. Refresh this page for updates.

Hopefully Alex Smith was stabbed repeatedly.

For fucks sake you clearly do not watch the games and must follow the game by reading gochiefs posts~

You must be blind... He throws an INT on the first drive, in the endzone, when he might very-well have been able to walk in. But no, he didn't the the big guy wearing the orange shirt... Yeah, the first game-changing dagger was an INT from HIM!

THEN, unless you're re-blind, you may have missed that he rarely hits our WRs in stride. The WRs are always making a circus catch or wondering if that ball was meant for them. Hell, they're usually so fucking surprised it's near them that their untalented asses miss the ball. But hey, the point is he's a VERY inaccurate thrower...

So keep sucking his dick, that'll help fix things!

Walked by the spot on the way back to the vehicle after the game. Some dumb parking attendant was yelling at people to walk around the spot near the RVs, but most people were completely ignoring it. Lady was saying "You can't walk through here, there's a homicide." but we didn't pay it much attention, and walked on by.

we did the exact same thing

Agree. Most of the offensive ineptitude that embodied the better part of three quarters was on Reid IMO. His playcalling became awful and predictable. All of the short drives gave Peyton and co. more time and more chances to score. Not to mention our defense had to be pooped. Wonder if it's any coincidence that they came up with a stop after the offense led a long sustained drive.

I guess my standard for "spot on" is what Manning, Brees, and Brady can do. All these circus catches our WRs have to make to get to the ball, or back to it, seems less than spot-on.

I guess I have to just accept the Chiefs will never have a Manning or a Brady (and their version of spot on). We'll draft another RT in the first round, and I'm sure next time we pick #1, we'll even pick a RT at that point.

As for an elite QB coming here in FA, well, we saw what happened with Manning...

While it's a great aspiration to have a Manning or a Brady, those are probably two of the top five or six quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, even with the watered-down rules. The odds are that we'll never have a Manning or a Brady on our team.

Yep... I did... And it should have, but it didn't.

I also saw Manning beat us deep with PERFECTLY thrown passes. I seem to recall fixing my post that said he'd burn us for 50, but he burned us for 77.

Now, where are those throws for Alex? He's had a few, prolly throws them all the time in practice, but he rarely makes them on gameday.

He sucks compared to Manning and Brady; he just can't throw the ball as well as they can (not even close to as well).

But he's what we have, and we'll simply have to live with his arm (like it or not).

I saw some great throws by smith today. Manning hit his receivers deep in stride because completely beat the coverage, including the safeties. It takes a Kendrick Lewis life effort to get beat over the top that many times. This was 2002 defense bad. Unless you can see all 22, you don't know if smith could have led receivers or not, for all you know had smith lead receivers he might have been leading them into coverage.
