He is 100% right

Yeah, I never thought of it before but I agree. If you ONLY get two a game, who cares if the coaches use them on something that seems minor/ridiculous. The "control" comes from the fact that there are only two (three if the first two succeed).

The other thing he was talking about was the very fine, and complicated, list of what is and isn't reviewable. The article quoted has a good example of some of the really stupid results that can arise.

As I wrote last week, there are a lot of obviously bad calls that could easily be corrected if only the referee were allowed to use replay. For instance, when Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk blatantly grabbed and twisted Adrian Peterson’s facemask before forcing Peterson to fumble, the play was automatically reviewed because it was a turnover — but the officials weren’t allowed to call the obvious facemask they had missed, even though it was right there in front of them on the video monitor, because facemasking isn’t reviewable.

One thing that bothers me about instant replay is indisputable evidence. What the fuck does it matter what was called? You're already reviewing it. A judgment call is a judgment call. Stop with the chicken-shit and make a call on the basis of replay alone.

That wouldn't bother me if they actually called it that way consistently. Some of them do, but others overturn calls that are hardly indisputable.

This is the only way penalties will get assessed when Tamba is held.

Not enough challenge flags.

Every touchdown ever would get called back for holding.

I would think it would have to be egregious to get called on replay

That's the problem, though. How do you draw the line between what is and isn't called?

it's like pornography. you'll know it when you see it :)

Unlimited challenges would slow the game down even more. Games are taking much longer than they have in the past, and this would make that even worse. If they want a compromise, they can use challenges until they run out of timeouts.

He's not wanting an unlimited number of challenges, just anything can be challenged

It would still slow the game down no matter how you slice it. Imagine all the other coaches and players on the sidelines keeping eyes on the game, looking for every possible penalty. This would slow the game down quite a bit.

How exactly does that slow down the game?

Players and coaches would catch more than the refs. How many replays do we see a week that there's a penalty somewhere?

Okay. With the same number of challenges allowed, how exactly does this slow down the game?

Yep if they still only get two challenges I fail to see how it would slow anything down

I wonder how it would affect it if you could challenge called penalties, but not un-called penalties.

So basically every play would get reviewed under the two minute mark? I don't think I need to watch any more commercials in the last two minutes of a half.

I say why not, challenges go unused all the time. If you're the Seattle Seahawks last night, you don't need challenges to destroy the opponent.

ROFL @ how InmenOften just abandoned this thread upon realization of how incredibly moronic his posts were.

I would get rid of the two minute replays from the booth thing and just give each side three challenges for the game

Could you imagine belicheck as the commish? I can totally see his rule now: "anything short of murder is legal". However, in this case I actually do agree with him: let everything be challengable, but each team only gets two challenges a game so that games do not become 5-6 hrs long.

I highly doubt that.

One replay official in the booth to review the fuck out of something more quickly. Stop going under the hood.

I highly doubt that.

I was exaggerating, but I do believe rules would be much looser if Belicheck was the commish.

let them challenge anything with their 2 challenges each half; and get rid of the retarded 2:00 minute warning.
