December 10, 1993.
The Beethoven of video games. The standard by which all FPS games were judged for more than a decade. And continue to be judged to this day.
Makes you feel old, eh?

There's a guy right now who's streaming a playthrough of Doom, Doom 2, TNT Evilution, and Plutonia. A 24-hour stream. He's insane, too.
He finished Doom awhile ago. Now on Map 11 of Doom 2.

The book is awesome. It's basically the history of Id Software.
John Carmack is one of my personal heroes, and I live my life partially by his ethos.
Man, I played the hell out of that game back when it was first released. So much fun.

John Carmack was in my Boy Scout troop briefly. Troop 102. He was a weird kid as I remember. Spent all of summer camp playing Dungeons and Dragons.

A lot of these older games you can actually just play in your browser instead of having to download a file and set up DOSbox. For instance I like to play my old commodore 64 games in a browser here:
http://c64i.com/
And when I have a hankering for playing Super Mario or other Nintendo games, I go here:

There's also links to play old Dos games, SNES and gameboy games.
