I was passenger and my cousin got his Camaro up to 150, I literally told him that was fast enough to slow down. It would have easily got up to 160. 150 was fucking scary.

I had my VR4 up to around 140 in 5th gear. Still had all of 6th gear to go.

That was incredibly stupid of me, and I did it at 3am on an empty section of interstate that I knew very well. Still, stupid.

Impressive....

In my younger days I had a Porsche 944S, it didn't go that fast, but it sure did go fast enough to let you know that if something goes wrong, anything, you're dead!

More fun that winding it out in 5th gear was racing on old airport runways. I had fun but when I let my brother-in-law put it through its paces, it really showed me (along with the elapsed time difference between the two of us) that I might not want to try racing as my profession...

was the 944 a turbo'd 4?

Nope.. A 1987 (that I bought in 1991) 944s had a normally aspirated, DOHC, 189HP (2.5 liter) engine. From "that day" it topped-out at ~170 (or so said the speedometer - but I was more interested in watching the road really) on 460 between Appomattox and Lynchburg (Virginia).

It wasn't smart (rather dumb actually), but there wasn't anybody else on the road, no houses that people might pull out of a driveway, so all I'd hurt was my dumb ass (!!!), but it was fun... After that it was rally-only for me.

A buddy of mine had an 88 944 that he pulled the motor out of and put a corvette LS1 in. We hit 160 in 5th gear at around 2500 rpm's. He went all the way through 5 and shifted to 6th and the thing kept pulling. He never changed the speedometer but we were going way faster than the 160 it read. That car was fucking nasty.

Guys, I hope you are aware that the Corvette featured in the video is a John Hennessey tuned car...

Therefore, if the car comes out of the factory and capable of 180 mph, Hennessey Performance will tune it up to 200 / plus mph.

This beauty - The new Lambo Huracan was unveiled December 20, 2013 - Factory true speed of over 200 mph.

would be close, but the V8 sound, speed, torque, and the fact you could drive it ever day, make the Vette a winner for me.

I did 146 in a mitsu eclipse spyder I owned for a while. That was fast as fuck to be in a convertible. I was somewhere in Wyoming (just past Utah) going from Washington to Colorado. Every little imperfection in the road felt massive and it felt like I was floating off the road at times.
I took a picture of the speedo, when I looked up from taking the picture the other side of I-90 or I-70 (pretty sure it was I-70) a stater or cop had someone pulled over, I let off the gas , coasted til my speed slowed to around 40ish or so and pulled over into a rest stop. I thought for sure I was gonna be going to jail in Wyoming for the night.
Anyways I waited for about 15-20 minutes and no one ever showed up, kept it under 100 for the rest of the way. I still wonder if he never saw me or just decided there was no way he would have caught up anyways and just said fuck it.

200 MPH is a mere 79-ish% of the Veyron's 255.

Best time however, was breaking in my buddy's Lotus Elise. It had a brand new motor [12 miles on it when we took it], but it was a big smooth go-kart. Came out of a Cloverleaf roundabout at 85, like we were on rails. Scariest part was the plethora of dead deer on the highways of US NE.

Had my Jeep up to 120 once. Motor still had more room to pull but in a lifted Jeep with mud tires 120 was enough.
Theoretical top speed is a little over 160. I say "theoretical" because that's based on tire size, gearing and assuming the engine would pull it's 7000 RPM peak in top gear but since it's got the aerodynamics of a brick I doubt it would do that.
Had it up to 92 on a gravel road once and that was about as fast as it would go. Any more throttle just spun the tires and would start it fish tailing. And let me tell you, getting the tail end loose in a lifted, short wheel base Jeep while tickling the underside of triple digit speeds is cause for a brown out.

Oh, it is called a camouflage wrap. In general most supercar manufacturers use a black and white swirly vinyl application so that when spy photographers snap their cars testing, they are unable to see the details and body work on the car...I was also told that it is more than a camouflage because it interferes with the focus on a camera.

Top car manufacturers in the world do the best swirly applications - And those car manufacturers are most likely in Formula 1.

Why Porsche 918 Spyder tops the list of Supercars in 2013 - Nurburgring Nordschleife:

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/xy94g-uDAhg?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

2014 Porsche 918 Spyder on the Nurburgring has an official time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds.

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/E9IWiTpWeiM?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Nurburgring lap: 2014 McLaren P1 has an unofficial time of 6:47. Rumor has it that McLaren will come in with an official lap time in low 6's.

This is one of the most stunning video ever made at Nurburgring. Beautifully narrated, dramatic at times - Here are some locations of note:

1. Nurburgring Graffiti - each piece represents where a driver was killed at that spot.
2. The Carousel @ :22, a dangerous banked concrete blind corner
3. Flugplatz ("The Flying Place") @ 2:40, where cars easily become airborne due to the sharp rise and dips in the road.
4. Eiffel Mountains of northwest Germany - sheer variety in elevation and how little run off there is in the grass.

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/5yKb6iSWc0k?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

For Corvette Lovers - Nurburgring lap: 2012 Corvette ZR1 has an official time of 7:19.63. Amazing performance, and astounding lap time for a car in that price range. Most supercars' fall into middle 7's to middle 8's lap times.
