Branden Albert is apparently looking for a deal about $9 million/year with $25 million guaranteed. Pricier than Jake Long last year.

Former NFL agent Joel Corry, a salary cap expert for National Football Post, believes the Dolphins will try to replace McKinnie by going after Kansas City left tackle Branden Albert, 29.

"I think they'd want an upgrade," Corry said.

Miami considered trading for Albert last offseason. He is playing on the Chiefs' franchise tag and, Corry believes, could command $9 million a season with $25 million guaranteed.

Albert is graded by Pro Football Focus as the 28th-best tackle in the NFL this season out of 76. McKinnie, since joining Miami, is No. 58. Clabo is No. 52 and Martin was No. 61.

He's good. But we drafted Fisher at #1 for a reason, and it's not for him to play RT.

If he's asking anywhere near that number, letting him walk and taking a 2015 pick at the bottom of the third round seems like the thing to do. I'd rather address the O-line needs in the draft, and use the cap space Albert wants to address FS, and WR this offseason

http://i.imgur.com/ZyUBpkZ.jpg

It's not that deceiving though. His overall rating is based on 800 snaps. The 10 LTs ahead of him on the list who have played in all 15 games this season have averaged 895.6 snaps. Albert's overall rating of 10.0 is 0.0125/snap. At that rate, Albert would have had a rating of 11.2 on the average number of snaps which would move him up one spot past Anthony Costonzo to 27th.

And I know you know this, but for others, that ranking of 28th includes both LTs and RTs. If you limit it to LTs, he's the 18th highest rated LT (and would move up to the 17th spot if we extrapolated his rating to the 15 game average number of snaps.

He's highly ranked for pass blocking as you point out, but the PFF rating for his run blocking is pretty bad (-2.4). And out of 76 OTs, he's one of only 3 with a negative rating for penalties.

The NFL salary cap for 2014 is going to play a big role in what KC is able to do in the off-season.

We are close to $121MM now and the cap is not projected to be that much higher for this next year. Also have to have money to sign draft picks.

We can save some money by releasing Dunta Robinson - $5,300,000 cap figure which would save us $3,300,000 with $2,000,000 of dead money.

We could also get some cap relieve if Dwayne Bowe (12MM), Tamba Hali (11.619MM), Brandon Flowers (10.5MM), or Eric Berry (11.619MM) would be willing to change their contracts.

KC's free agents such as Branden Albert, Tyson Jackson, and Dexter McCluster are probably gone because they can sign for more money elsewhere.

Kansas City will have to use their 6 draft picks wisely and hunt for bargains like they did last year with Geoff Schwartz and Quintin Demps.

There are some good free agent Offensive Tackles, Safeties, and ILBs that could help the Chiefs, but we are going to have to find bargains and draft well in trying to improve the team.

Maybe…

Contract numbers according to - http://overthecap.com/cap.php?Name=Brandon Flowers&Position=CB&Team=Chiefs

2011 – $3MM
2012 - $8 MM
2013 – $6.6MM
2014 – $10.5MM
2015 – $11.5 MM
2016 – $9.75MM

If KC cuts Flowers in this next year, they have $7MM in dead money and only save $3.5MM.

They will have to look elsewhere to open up cap room... at least for another season.

Mr. Laz

cutting Flowers would create 7 million in dead cap money by that website

I love Bowe but, with our current cap situation, that contract feels like it will hamper us in the future.

We badly need a pass rusher but that contract Hali's sporting is going to require a look. Maybe we could explore some trade options..

We have under 121 on the books and the limit will probably be up to around 126 if it goes up by a similar amount as it did this year.

We have just about 3 million to roll over from this year
Cutting Robinson saves us 3.5
Cutting Daniels saves another 2.5

Extending Berrys deal should save us at least 3-4 million, as his cap hit is 11 and top safeties get around 7.

Restructuring Hali's deal would be wise. A "you're gonna retire a Chief" contract with big roster bonuses each year and converting some of is pay to a bonus.

If we squeeze the cap in the right places, we should be able to get plenty of wiggle room.

Trading Dwayne Bowe would be ideal but where would you find a trade partner for that contract and the value that the team would get?

Cutting him would result in $16MM of dead money and –$4MM in cap savings.

We're gonna need Bowe next year, he may not be a world beater but he will be a dandy #2.

With what we have, a free agent and a drafted player, that corp will look a LOT better.

With the 2014 roster, as it is right now, we need a #1 WR, FS, G, T, DE, and ILB. You can rank them according to need but we will have to use some free agents along with the draft to take care of the roster.

Even if Daniel performs well today (unlikely), they should cut him either way. They can bring another young-ish veteran for cheaper (Tolzien? He also played behind Alex in SF) and have him compete with Bray.

Don't really need an ILB, our LBs are the best part of our D. I'd rather them focus on improving the secondary further.
