View Full Version : Chiefs More evidence that Succup is mediocre

Since entering the league in 2009, Succop's made FG % has been no higher than 10th in the NFL in any single season (his high mark of 10th in the NFL was during his rookie season). Since that season he has finished 29th, 21st, 22nd, and 28th in made FG %.

He is garbage of a certain Lin-ian caliber.

agreed. there are probably several kickers out on the street that could put up better numbers than that. we need to bring a few guys in this week to light a fire under ryan's butt if for nothing else

Do you prefer to wait until after he costs the Chiefs the playoff game? That is exactly where this is headed. We've seen this act before. I bet he kicks himself off next year's roster.

Unfortunately the Chiefs are probably stuck with Succup the rest of postseason, kind of like how the 49ers had to stick with Akers last postseason because there weren't any other kickers to bring in (although they did work out other kickers during the playoffs last year I think).

Looking at Succop's contract, his base salary jumps significantly in 2014… which would be a good reason (among many good reasons) for the Chiefs to get rid of him during the offseason.

Another kicker thread. This is exciting.

Comparing Succop to Lin Elliot is the pinnacle of next level stupidity. Congrats.

Comparing Succop to the kicker that shall go unnamed is the pinnacle of next level stupidity. Congrats.

The kicker that shall go unnamed finished 9th and 13th in made FG % during his two seasons in KC.

Succup has never finished higher than 10th.

That is career FG % made, which for the kicker that shall go unnamed includes his two seasons in Dallas when he made 68% and 50% of his kicks (in each of the two seasons).

As a Chief he was an 82% kicker, which is about the same as Succup (Succup is a career 81% kicker).

Also if you notice on that all time list of made FG %'s, Succup is 27th out of 33 active kickers.

Bottom line he is garbage.

Because people care about his 82% in KC and ignore how terrible he was in Dallas.

Was he 82% in the playoffs?

Succop has been solid throughout his career. He has missed a couple of easy field goals this year. He has never choked at anywhere near the level of the kicker who shall go unnamed.

He's not been solid. He's ranked near the bottom of the NFL in made FG % in 4 of his 5 seasons in the league.

He hasn't attempted a FG in the playoffs yet (he didn't attempt a FG in the 2010 playoff game), but if yesterday is any indication of how he would react in a pressure situation… the Chiefs are in trouble.

This.

When you have anxiety about whether or not your TD will mean 6 points instead of 7 because your kicker cant reliably even make a PAT attempt, that is when you know you have a terrible kicker.

You don't just exclude his time in Dallas either. You have to look at the guy overall. Lin Elliot was a fucking terrible excuse for a kicker. His seasons in Dallas should have seen his exit from the league. Its a testament to Carl Peterson's monumental dumbassery that he landed on a Chiefs roster.

Comparing Succop to Lin Elliot was bad enough in terms of going full retard, I don't even know what to call the act of defending the comparison.

Perhaps you've had a stroke and your fingers haven't figured it out yet.

Some of you mother****ers are completely retarded.

No one is suggesting bringing in a mother****ing kicker from 20 years ago to replace that worthless Succop, just a better kicker from today.

Maybe you need to look at this again because you are all kind of slow:

"Since that season he has finished 29th, 21st, 22nd, and 28th in made FG %."

Succop was decent a few years ago. He isn't now.

John Unitas was a pretty good quarterback in his prime. I don't want him playing quarterback for the Chiefs now.

Its because he hasn't ever been put in a high pressure situation similar to the infamous Elliott game. I can't remember if he missed any kicks in the Ravens playoff game?

No, he didn't attempt any in that game. That would require Matt Cassel moving the ball past his own 30, which I don't think happened.

It would not surprise me at all if we drafted a kicker in a late round. That said, he who shall not be named lives in infamy due to missing three (high percentage) field goals in a three point playoff loss. Succop has not even come close to dropping that sort of atrocity on us and does not merit the same level of disdain.

In years past we didn't bother taking a hard look at him because everything else was so freakin bad.

Earlier this year we didn't bother taking a hard look because we were rolling... well, its now time to start taking a hard look.

Seems like a classic situation of "go sign a free agent that no other team wants because surely he'll be better than what we have."

Not saying that Succop is great, but he seems pretty solid up to the high 40s--like pretty much every other NFL kicker. It's not like there's a bunch of kickers who can nail 50 yds+ all the time just sitting around.

That's all true, even Morten Anderson missed a clutch kick once in a while... but the numbers in the op are consistently bottom barrel, then you throw in his veeery weak kickoffs that rarely result in a downed knee and its time to look around.

Succop has made some game winning field goals for the Chiefs, and he's had games where he's been damn near the entire points production like his 6 FGs against the Saints.

Kickers miss kicks. Fact of life. Gary Anderson of the 98 Vikings never missed a kick all season, and then missed a 38 yarder in the playoffs against the Falcons, in the perfect conditions of a dome. Vikings went on to lose in OT.

Its just what happens in football. Execute offensively and you don't need to worry about a missed FG.

Succop has the leg for 50 yard field goals, he just needs to get his head straight. He will come through for us when it counts.
