I think this is like the 4th or 5th year they have done this game? Pretty cool, especially since it's snowing.

What's funny is, there appears to be no good seats. The fans are so far away from the rink.

2. The Venue

The Big House, as Michigan Stadium is nicknamed, is an iconic venue, providing the NHL a chance to set an attendance record.

All the weekends coming up will be filled with NFL playoff football, so that'd probably be even worse.

Not really, they have been doing this for the last few years.

There are not as many bowl games on New Year's Day as there used to be, they are so spread out now.

I started watching hockey about 5 years ago and now almost prefer it over football. It's refreshing to not bitch about the stupid rules and awful officiating.

Yes.

Looks small, must be because the stands don't sit right down next to the ice.

I love hockey.

Out of all the sports it's the one that's most nerve racking to watch when a team you like is in the playoffs. It's like I can barely watch for the whole game. Every goal against seems devastating and every goal for your team is elation. And it can change so quickly.

That's what sets it apart from soccer for me, and why I like it more. Soccer seems like slow motion to me after watching hockey. Hockey can change on a dime.

Refs still suck, but they have less of an impact on the game than refs in the NFL do.

Yeah, it's a matter of preference. I know girls who have no interest in pretty boys but get all hot and bothered by a guy with a beard and a few missing teeth.

They should have just iced over the entire area inside the stands and made one huge hockey rink. They could just put goals at each end and on at center ice on the sides and play 2 games at once. The cross-ice collisions would be epic.

I wasn't really watching just listening and when I looked up the one kid about fell over when he turned around to show the name on the back of the sweater. I thought damn that's kind of embarrassing. The next kid skated up and I realized it was kids and not the players.

I wish I understood Hockey a little better; I could totally get into it I think.

I played for 20+ years and can explain the whole game on a bar napkin in 5 minutes. It's not too complicated.

Icing is like a delay of game call. You're just shooting the puck down the ice to run time off the clock so icing is called. You must cross the center line before you can dump the puck in the opponents end of the ice. (This doesn't apply if you have a man in the penalty box. Then you're "shorthanded" and allowed to ice and run time off the penalty.
http://blogimages.thescore.com/nhl/files/2012/03/icing.gif

Offsides...keeps a guy from standing in front of the goalie the whole game waiting for someone to pass him the puck from the other end. You can't cross your opponents blue line until the puck passes it.
