It came across my feed from Deadspin. There isn't an article to support it, so I just posted the pics and a link to the Parks and Rec FB page.

"But look where it went!"
I said. "Look where it blew!
You blew the mess
Out of the house. That is true.
But now you made Snow Spots!
You can't let THEM stay!"
"Let us think about that now,"
Said C, B, and A.

Coldest game in history?

I thought there was a playoff game in Cincinnati in the early 80s where it was more than 30 below?

Am I imagining this? Anyone?

The Ice Bowl got down to -13 w/ -48 windchild. I believe the -30 in Cincinnati was wind chill.

FWIW, the -59 was an outdated formula, and today it would register as -38.

The Ice Bowl was -36 F with the new formula, a game-time air temp of -15 F.

Awesome story:

The officials were unable to use their whistles after the opening kick-off. As referee Norm Schachter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norm_Schachter) blew his metal whistle to signal the start of play, it froze to his lips. As he attempted to free the whistle from his lips, the skin ripped off and his lips began to bleed. The conditions were so hostile that instead of forming a scab, the blood simply froze to his lip. For the rest of the game, the officials used voice commands and calls to end plays and officiate the game. At one point during the game, CBS announcer Frank Gifford (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Gifford) said on air, "I'm going to take a bite of my coffee."[34] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967_NFL_Championship_Game#cite_note-34)

I should have added a poll to this thread, to vote on whether you think it's a win or a fail. I'm going with win because it looks cool even though unintended.

Shouldn't have been unintended....that thing freezes over all the time when it's cold like this.

Yeah I lived near there growing up too in Gladstone.

When they first put that fountain in they would let it freeze up and you could walk around inside it like an ice castle. Last few times it was wintery they had pussed out and not turned it on.

Glad to see the streets are once again running red with Andrew Luck's blood...

Averaging 3.3 a year. He's got two left. Interesting that he decided to burn one so early. It's a bold strategy, let's see if it pays off.
