My next door neighbor used to wrestle under the name Mike Pappas. He had an old promotional picture in his jewelry store of him sitting on the arm of Andre. Pretty amazing.

I heard Jay Mohr tell this story once - he said his friend worked at a NYC area hotel where wrestlers stayed when they came to town. Andre the Giant got two adjoining rooms, one for sleeping and the other one so he could take a dump in the tub.

Yep you should tell Andre that- he wanted to beat the hulk down and go out a winner. Hulk was scared of him.

By then he was physically deteriorating, including back issues. He still probably could've destroyed the Hulk though. I remember hearing that the Hulk was nervous before teh fight, repeatedly asking if Andre really was cool with it, because if he changed his mind it would get ugly fast.

I came across this a few months ago. Absolutely fascinating stuff. In many ways I felt terrible for the guy.

Put aside everything else and think of it this way -- go put on the biggest pair of gloves you own. Now go through life with them. Try picking up ordinary sized forks and knives and trying to use them to eat a steak. That was Andre, every single day.

Lots of really interesting stuff.

Wilt was ungodly strong, just for the record. Bill Russell said he was shocked when he first played Wilt at how strong he was.

And yet Wilt never fouled out of a game. Even though before there was Hack-a-Shaw there was Hack-a-Wilt. He was, possible, too scared of his own strength and ability to hurt people, which I think adversely affected his winning championships.
