View Full Version : Life So IOhh broke my leg on valentines day.

I have never broken a bone before. I was walking down my stairs to my driveway and I guess when I had shoveled and salted I missed a stair.

My foot started to slip and I started to fall backwards, then my foot hit the dry pavement and stuck, which in turn basically folded my leg in half.

I am pretty well incapacitated. I was wondering if anyone had some ideas of a new hobby I could pick up while sitting on the couch 23 hours a day.

Ohh, I have copys of the xrays if anyone wants to see them. Pretty gruesome though.

Suck man.

Honestly, if you're looking to better yourself do some personal finance research. Lots of free stuff on the internet that can get you basic lessons, but quick books and enter all your bank statements. Or if you're cheap you can start with a spreadsheet.

Figure out where your money is going and then apply strategies to stretch it further. You'll probably need it if you're going to be laid up awhile. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

All the best.

Ooh, Skyrim would totally work if you've not played. It's a huge game, you can easily put in 100+ hours of gameplay. And it's addictive as hell.

As Mecca warned, watch out for the blood clots. Any pain or cramping in the feet or calves or thighs can be a sign that clots have formed and are restricting blood flow to you leg muscles and nerves. If this occurs, get to an ER immediately and make sure a doctor checks for reduced pulses in your lower legs. Sometimes blood thinners will rectify the condition, sometimes surgery (thrombectomy) and sometimes the clots may release and move to your brain or heart causing a stroke or death. Don't take any chances with this possibility.

Sheeeet. I could've done it cheaper. I've got a dewalt and some plumbers tape.

Not sure how I missed this thread, but I had a similar injury (torn ligaments, broken tibia, fibula, femur). They put my knee back together just to stabilize it with an external fixator. I had to wait for 5 months before they went back in to reconstruct it. After my 2nd knee surgery I had to sit in a constant passive motion machine for 23 hours a day for 2 weeks with my leg stapled from my shin to my quad.

Glad you made it through, it definitely gets better.

I broken leg and blew my knee out in 93. Other than the nerve damage where the incision was made its never givin me a lick of trouble.

Just a quick update:

Its been 4 weeks since my surgery, the cast came off today and i am now in a walking boot(which i am still not allowed to put pressure on yet)

It still has to be elevated basically all the time, which sucks.

I am starting physical therapy next week.

Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel anyways.

ohh, and i havent taken any painkillers in 2 weeks, i know a few of you guys mentioned that so i figured i would throw that in there.

Do what the doctors PT people say.

I know a lot of people who did too much because it felt OK or too little because it hurt that wish they would have followed directions.

Update.

Been out of the walking boot for about 4 weeks now. Been going to physical therapy. Allowed to put full weight on my leg and walking around with one crutch as a makeshift cane. Feeling good.

On a side note its amazing how much muscle deteriorates when you dont use it. My calf is just a flab of nothingness.

Nice work. Do exactly the PT they recommend, no more and no less. Most people neglect it, a few try to come back too fast... neither is good. PT is important.
