The rules:

In Round 1, I'm going to put up three randomly selected scenes from the nomination thread.

You'll vote for your ONE favorite scene among the three. The key here is FAVORITE. We're not talking about the 'best' or 'most powerful' or 'most meaningful'. We're talking about the scene that you most enjoy watching, however you define that.

The winners will move on. I'll also take the 10 highest-scoring second-place scenes and they'll advance as wild cards.

Some of our nominations did not include clips. This will be noted. If you find a clip, please post it and let me know so I can update it if it moves on.

We've got ourselves three high-quality scenes here. This is a tough heat. My votes:

#1 - Alien. I really like how everyone is just standing around stunned at the end.

#2 - The Shawshank Redemption. The scene is probably better in context. As a standalone scene, it's okay but not great. And spoiler question because I haven't seen the movie in ages. What did Andy do to go to prison? Was he innocent or guilty?

#3 - The Green Mile. It's a well-done scene, but it's a little gruesome and therefore hard to call a "favorite". I can appreciate it, but I was wincing throughout most of it.

I lose track of the details sometimes. I may have gone out for popcorn at that point, too. I don't remember.

I've honestly never gone back and re-watched any of these scenes until just now, but the one I picked was Alien, so there you are. Second would be Shawshank.

That Green Mile scene was just disturbing.

Dang, Shawshank and Green Mile in the same heat?

Overall, Shawshank is a better movie, but I give Green Mile the edge on these particular scenes.

I kind of figured that the Shawshank Redemption would be strong, but I didn't think it would get this much support against a couple of other strong scenes. That Alien scene is awesome.

We had an interesting fourth contender in the mix, too. Assuming that the same commercial shows up for everyone, the Pepsi ad preceding the Shawshank scene was really cool. I always immediately click off of any ads, but I actually watched the whole thing.

Shawshank crawls through 500 yards of foul stuff to move on to the next round.
