View Full Version : Football John Carlson reportedly to be cut by Minnesota Vikings

And this was the guy who turn us down and sign with the Vikings.

Tight end John Carlson won't have the opportunity to thrive under new Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner this season.

Unable to find common ground on a restructured contract, the Vikings will release Carlson, Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo reports.

Carlson lasted two seasons into a five-year, $25 million contract that left NFL observers scratching their heads in March of 2012. He collected $9.55 million in guarantees over two seasons while contributing 40 receptions, 387 yards and one touchdown.

After his third NFL concussion ended his 2013 season, Carlson acknowledged retirement as an option. As evidenced by his unsuccessful contract discussions, it appears that the 29-year-old has decided to play a seventh season.

The Vikings have plenty of salary-cap space to spare. They didn't need the $2 million in savings, which suggests this was strictly a football decision.

Although Carlson's concussion history makes him a risky signing, it will be interesting to see if the Seahawks consider a reunion with Zach Miller's Seattle future up in the air.

I don't get it. I am getting to where I never get the jokes at this place anymore. It's a tragic sign of the times, guess i'm old.

We should just make a new John Carlson forum. Any updates on anybody with that name should go there.

Um, I totally would take Carlson.

If we could cut Fasano, and land Carlson, we get better.

Bring him in. We need more worthless warm bodies at TE.

LOL. Yup, more slow broke dicks clinging on to a roster spot. DOO IT.

I hear kellen winslow is also looking for a job.

Carlson and Brokeaki can share a roster spot, surely neither would be healthy at the same time

You could have the two of them AND Fasano and STILL only have 1 healthy TE at any given time.

I wouldn't waste the time. He's another Fasano and Kevin Boss. Concussions and injuries just aren't worth it and the dead money cap hits they end up taking when cut compared to what they produce on the field

Uh no. Mega Threads suck. They don't get updated often enough and it doesn't stop other posters from starting a new thread about every player that is cut or released.

Why the dude is more of a blocker than a pass catcher. Alex needs a pass catching TE not a blocker. Not to mention dude has a history of concussion issues now.

Gimme a healthy Kelce, a top rookie and Bloodbath McGrath... I like my chances with a trio like that.

Don't think you want a concussion guy at the TE position, not a good idea.

looks like we might already have one of our own in Fasano

We got lucky that Pioli whiffed on him in 2012. We got even luckier that Pioli and Co. hit on their #2 target, Kevin Boss! Well done to our GM and Pro Personnel department led by Ray Farmer in identifying quality free agent talent! We had so many hits that year. Stanford Routt, Brady Quinn, Peyton Hillis, Erik Whineston. Again, props to our front office bringing in that pipeline of talent!

He's a Cardinal. Yes, I know not officially but I was just at dinner at Flemings in Chandler and he and Cards GM Steve Keim were right next to me talking about schools and places to buy a house.
