Champ Bailey released

Broncos released CB Champ Bailey.
He was owed a $1 million roster bonus on March 15. The cut saves $10 million against the cap. With the savings, we wouldn't be surprised to see GM John Elway make a run at free agent SS T.J. Ward. Denver is needy at strong safety, and Broncos executive Tom Heckert drafted Ward in Cleveland. Bailey, 36 in June, began to show signs of decline late in 2012, particularly during Denver's playoff loss to Baltimore. He all but fell off the cliff in 2013, battling recurring foot injuries and performing ineffectively when available. Bailey wants to keep playing, but is unwilling to make a Charles Woodson-like conversion to safety. Either way, he's going to have to be open to playing for cheap.

I wonder if someone will look at picking up Woodyard and moving him to SS. Special teams badass, so he's a good open field tackler - multiple 100+ tackles seasons including at least 1 with 5+ sacks and 3 interceptions. He's played some spot duty time at Safety, but at the time the Broncos had a bigger need to play him at LB. He's also faster than Kam Chancellor.

Only made 1.5 million last year, too.

Kennison did not routinely beat up on Champ Bailey. That's just flat revisionist history.

He did, once, have a 100 yard game in which he made like 3 catches against Champ, because if anyone remember Champ spent a lot of time covering Tony.

Too small I fear, though he is one of the best tacklers - esp for a CB, which tend to shy away from contact A LOT.

Besides, that leaves us where in terms of starting CBs - when you realistically need 3 starting to match up against todays offenses- even more so when you look at our Division.
