@TonyGonzalez88: The NFL says no more dunking over the goalpost. This one I don't understand. Looks like I got out just in time.

I'm sure it stems from the Jimmy Graham incident last year. Still stupid though.

And all old Roger talks about is "creating a more enjoyable experience for the fans."

How, by taking the personality away from the players and making them robots?

Guess what Commish' - we enjoy hating players as well. I enjoyed watching Faulk puke on the field and shutting down Mandy Ross as much as I enjoyed a good Priest Holmes TD...

I think one of the owners should tell Cuban and the NBA to follow their lead to success... Watching 7'6" men dunking a ball into a 10" basket isn't fun, cool, and not impressive either.

So at least make it a one-point play in the NBA, or help them get better by just getting rid of the fag dunks!

I think it's silly to outlaw it, but if a guy's goal post dunk does this the team should be charged with a delay of game penalty on the ensuing kick off.

If I remember correctly, that was Jimmy Graham. Says so in the image URL so I think I am.

How does getting rid of the most efficient shot in basketball help anyone get better?

It's boring... Anybody 7'6" can do it! I think games with more 3-point shots are A) more interesting, and B) take more skill. Generally speaking , the closer you get to the basket the less skill it takes to get the ball in the hole! So they can keep the dunk, just make it 1 point! Then keep the 2 where it is. Keep the three where it is. And make anything 3 feet farther (in the same arc) 4 points, and anything from past half-court 5 points.

Oh, and while they're at it, fix the silly rules about what's a foul and what's a charge. As it is now, it's just goofy and makes the sport boring.

And last, like hockey, allow fights to happen for a bit. I'd like it more then!

OK, some of that might be over the top!

When the NFL micromanages the fun out of games, it turns the fans off... This was no big deal but now the NFL has made way more out of it, by outlawing it, than need be. What's next? No. Lambeau Leap? Plenty of other more important stuff to legislate.

Sully

I don't think this is a matter of him getting out "just in time." I think it's a matter of him getting out, and them waiting for that to outlaw the celebration that he was known for.

It may be easier to do the actual dunk, but the skill it takes to get there is far more than passing the ball around the outside and shooting it.

Look at the numbers on the jerseys.

The Saints offense is on the field, Jimmy Graham did that, not Tony Gonzales.

Tony was fine dunking over the crossbar, then came every other unoriginal copycat bastard.
I got sick of seeing it nearly every touchdown.

It may be easier to do the actual dunk, but the skill it takes to get there is far more than passing the ball around the outside and shooting it.

Wait, if you touch a guy it's a foul, so what's "hard" about it? Just run at the basket, step around the the guys who have their feet set and can't move (and can't "reach in" (which takes contact to be a foul)), and jump 4 inches.

So I'll agree that throwing a ball around the outside of the 3-point arch isn't "hard", but making that 3-pointer once you're done throwing the ball around takes a lot more skill that a 4" hop and a slam dunk.

But I'm willing to negotiate. Make contact "in the paint" OK, and you might have a sport that has a lot more 2 and 3 point shots. That'd be good.

03-26-2014, 11:22 AM
What if they raised the crossbar 5 feet?

That would accomplish making PAT's harder, eliminate dunking, and comply with the new rule of raising the bars 5' all in one.

As if HOF players like Dick Butkus never did any of that taunting. Hell Dick Butkus would spit on players before the play.

Part of the game is taunting then you get burnt and shut the fuck up.
