I'm going to the George R. Brown Gun Show this week.

This is a big show that used to be held at the Astrodome.

They have just about every gun imaginable there but often I am approached or see someone carrying a gun they brought in to trade that I want for myself.

I'd rather get it from them than pay the dealers marked up price.

Plus avoid the sales tax.

I'm looking for stock models:

Colt AR-15 w/heavy barrel
Colt Python .357 w/6" barrel blue
S&W .357 w/6" barrel blue
Beretta .380 blue
Beretta 92F 9mm

Will most like switch out the stock pistol grips with Pachmayr's.

Probably a banana clip for the AR.

Anyone have any experience dealing with private gun sellers?

How safe it is it, worried about getting burned.

It would be hard to get my money back if not satisfied.

Figure I could get a Bushmaster AR for about 1000.00

Not sure about the Colt though.

Make sure to only buy the ones with filed off serial numbers.

I prefer private sales. The government doesn't know I'm buying it (because it is NONE of their GD business).

Aren't gun shows known for their atrocious deals?

Same here. Currently, I have three handguns with a paper trail to me. The rest were gifted, traded or bought through individuals.

All of my guns were lost in an arroyo during a flash flood when the rear axle of our wagon broke crossing the Sierra Nevadas. I didn't have time to go back and look for them and now they are lost to eternity. Pity.
