By Friday, Jacksonville will sign Cleveland's transition-tagged C Alex Mack to a 5-year offer sheet the Browns will have five days to match.

Alex Mack's 5-year deal with Jacksonville will be designed to make it as difficult as possible for the Browns to match, per sources.

Sources close to Alex Mack say he wants to play this contract in Jacksonville, not Cleveland, which opted not to give him long-term deal.

At least in Jacksonville he doesn't pay any state taxes.

Whats the deal with transition tags? Does Jax have to give Cleveland anything if Mack signs with them?

Jacksonville blows. It's pretty much the worst big city in Florida..

With that said, Jacksonville>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Baghdad>>Guantanamo>> Cleveland.

Cleveland doesn't get anything if they don't match the offer.

Didn't realize Meester had retired.

Does Shaun Smith still play in the NFL? I wonder if he faces the Jaguars on the schedule LMAO

This, this and this. Between state and city taxes I think he is looking at over 8% to play in Cleveland.

No, transition tag just gives them a chance to match the offer.

When you find a franchise Center, you cant pass on that.

It's kind of weird that this is all over a Center though. Sounds like Jags will be screwing up their own cap in the process seeing as they have less room than the Browns do.

Certain teams (bottom feeders) almost always over value linemen to the point it handicaps the team, in general.

And the NFL universe rights itself. Last year was the only year in recent memory where the Jags didn't exactly mirror the Chiefs. I'd say they both end up within 2 games of each other next year.

Florida even with the crazies is still so much better than Cleveland. Luxury taxes are extreme in Florida though so he should try and keep a residence in another state as well.

Cleveland Browns transition-tagged center Alex Mack has signed an offer sheet with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Jaguars announced Friday.

Terms were not disclosed, but sources said the deal is for five years and $42 million with $26 million guaranteed.

The Browns have five days to match. They are expected to do so.

The contract has some unique elements -- most notably that Mack can void the final three years with the promise he will not receive the team's franchise or transition tag. So if Mack is unhappy after two years and wants out, he can void the deal.

The deal also includes a no-trade provision.

Mack would make $10 million this season, then $8 million in each of the next four seasons. The first three seasons, all $26 million worth, are guaranteed, meaning Mack has received the highest guarantee of any free agent this offseason.

$9 million a year for a center? I know that he scored a touchdown in the pro bowl and all, but $9 million?

Jacksonville got better as the season went on last year. They were .500 in the second half of the season, granted against weak competition, but I think Bradley has them headed in the right direction. Their play was improving.

Jesus . . . way to cripple your franchise. I could see spending that kind of coin on a LT, but a Center? Mack is a great player, but that's way too much for that position.

Stupid and ineffective teams do stupid things.

KC, Jacksonville and Cleveland always go through the revolving door of spending high picks and lots of money on offensive linemen...only to eventually replace them with high picks and big money.

Jacksonville traded away Eugene Monroe for peanuts and drafted Joeckel and tried to give Alex Mack a silly contract even though they have NOTHING in terms of skill position players.

The Chiefs let Albert walk and are replacing him with the first overall pick. Last year we had 2 first rounders, 2 second rounders and 2 third rounders on the OL and let a first and third rounder walk for nothing and will most likely replace them with more premium picks.

Cleveland has spent multiple firsts on their OL and have NOTHING in terms of QB or RB to block for...and would have jettisoned Gordon if someone would have let them. Their top two caps hits are Joe Thomas and Alex Mack, totaling 22 million in cap space. That's just beyond stupid.

Look no further as to why these 3 teams are some of the most futile in the NFL.

Dumb thing is....is he gets like $18 million guaranteed over the next 2 years and then he can void the contract.....AND he has a no trade clause.

not that i wish injury on anyone but if he gets hurt they have a 9 million dollar center sitting at home and still have to play a scrub anyway.

I see them the same if not worse. Actually worse. They beat houston twice, Tennessee and cleveland. Not sure if RB is an improvement, could be. WR is iffy with the flakiness. I see them being the worse team next year.

And the contract says he cannot be franchised or transitioned tagged.

So if he voids it, does that mess with the bonus? if not that is 13 million a year.
