View Full Version : Prayer Request Ended up in ICU.

Hi folks, don't think I've ever done this before, but I could use some good thoughts and prayers, good vibes, juju, whatever you have spare.

On Friday, I went to the emergency room with what I thought was a severe asthma attack. My blood oxygen was in the 60s and dipped into the 50s. After a couple hours in the ER, the docs transferred me to another hospital, where I was officially admitted with pneumonia, described as pulmonary failure. There are some other complications, as well, so I'm currently in the ICU.

My blood oxygen climbed into the 90s with the help of a BiPAP, and this afternoon they were able to get me stable on just a steady stream of oxygen.

Doing okay now, but lots going on tomorrow.

Anyway, good thoughts would be appreciated.

Pneumonia is being described as pulmonary failure? Those seem like very different things.

Good luck to you. You're living in the age of medicine, so you're in good hands.

It's pretty bad. Except for not being able to breathe, I really didn't feel that bad. But even walking from the car to my house would have me doubled over huffing for air.

Pulmonary failure is most likely symptomatic of pneumonia and will resolve itself. Good thoughts regardless.

Yeah, that was the worst it'd been. I guess on the plus side, the paramedics said for someone with sats in his 50s, I was the calmest person he'd ever seen. I was just trying to relax and breathe as much as I could. Which wasn't much.

Still in the hospital today, still in ICU. May get on the floor in a couple days.

As I sat in the hospital last year there were just 2 things that I appreciated. The first hospital had an amazing menu but ugly nurses. The second hospital (ku) had hot, hot nurses but food that was for shit. Seems like the only time I got a decent meal at KU was when they switched the hot nurses out for a male one. Point is I never had two of the things I liked at once.

Hopefully in your journey you get the most amazing steak served to you by the hottest nurse ever. Here's to a quick recovery.

Make sure you do your IS hourly. That plastic thing your sucking into and keeping the ball floating. Make sure you get the ball in the middle. The idea is not to suck in as hard as you can and keep it there. That just collapse's the avolei. You want to keep them open as long as possible so the fluid can move around and out of your lungs. Very important. Don't slack off.

I feel pretty good. Just a little standing and walking was a lot more tiring than I expected after 5 days on strict bed rest. But throughout the PT, my sats stayed 98, 99 percent, so that was really encouraging.
