Someone explain to me playoff matchups. I kind of talked about this in the last thread. Why doesn't the highest seeds play the lowest seed possible after the 1st round?

The NBA has never done that. The bracket is like the NCAA tournament. No re-seeding.

I always thought the NHL does it right with the re-seeding (or at least they used to do it right, they've bastardized their format now).

DeRozan as soft as expected in his first playoff game. Raptors will have to rely on Lowry and Valanciunas to even keep these games close.

KC_Connection
04-19-2014, 01:41 PM
The Nets somehow weren't called for a foul in the 4th quarter, but that can't be any surprise considering who their players are. And really, calls or not, Nets were the better team on the day and got the win they deserved. Raptors have to play much better than that.

Lowry was fine and Valanciunas played great for his first playoff game (17 and 18), but the rest were far too soft (as I expected they might be). They'll be in tough to pick up 2 games now in this series, especially as the refereeing won't get any better going forward.

if the NBA had any balls they should fine/suspend him a game for that. That's basically how the malice in the palace started but reverse, the fan actually had the balls to face Artest when he threw it. (though Artest targeted the wrong fan back)

but since the Malice I thought the NBA took a strong stance against fan/player interaction like this, and he shouldnt get off free for that.

Not that the NBA would ever do anything like that to a star like Blake, but he could very easily claim it was accidental.

Spurs lost to Memphis a few years ago and Dallas to Golden State a few years before that. I get that it's hard to get up for a below .500 team, but they didn't even bother to play hard tonight. Still think they'll pick it up and win in the end, but I don't think I've ever seen a contender start quite like that.

So I looked and Houston takes more FT's at 31\game. That is probably due to Harden driving to the lane flopping and hack-a-Dwight

Durant took more FT's than anyone in the league and wasn't close, 805 and 674 was second place.

Could it have something to do with the fact that he attempted more shots than anybody in the league.

It could, but it's not certain. Guys who drive are more likely to get fouled than jump shooters. Durant does a little bit of everything on offense, but he doesn't absorb near the amount of contact that Harden or James do.

And he would be correct. The NBA, more than any other league, practices "star power" officiating. Superstars and the "in teams" get the benefit of far more calls than teams having fewer super stars. Its been that way forever.

A perfect example is Jordan's blatant "push off" against Utah in the NBA Finals to win it all in the in the last seconds of the game. That gets called an offensive foul if any other player, other than Jordan, does it. One if the absolute worst non-calls in NBA Finals history. Jordan literally pushed the Utah player out of the way, then shoots an uncontested jump shot to win the game and series. It was a good shot, but it doesn't happen if the proper call was made. No way Utah ever gets that call...

Right crybaby bitch boy. Maybe we should come up with a million EXCUSES, LIKE YOU, when our team loses. But...but...but...its because ..because... NOBODY on this board makes as many excuses as YOU when your team loses. The Rockets lost cuz the Blazers beat them. They were out played and out coached. The end. They get another shot Wednesday. The last I checked this is a best of 7 series. Plenty of games left. Its only lame if an NBA player cant make a free throw 70plus percent of the time. When your shooting around 40-50 percent, its hilarious. I wont ever forget Howard telling the L.A times last year, when he goes to the free throw line he gets nervous. Im like what? nervous? 10 years in the league and nervous shooting free throws?lol

If your a coach and dont use hack a howard when the game is close, you shouldnt be coaching. I dont see how NBA players can be so bad at free throws. Its the one thing in basketball you can litterally do all day without getting tired.

Hand size makes shooting free throws harder for big guys. Add that to the 20,000 people staring daggers at you and you see why they miss a lot. If you're already not good at something, having 20k people staring at you while you do it won't help you at all.

You're right, you seem very unemotional and objective about the Rockets. :shake:

Harden isn't really more of a flopper than guys like CP3 or Manu. He does get fouled a lot, as guys can't check him off the dribble and he's strong enough to go through the reach ins coming from help. If you want to bag on Harden, talk about his defense. On that side of the ball, he's a complete joke. I've actually been a really big fan of his, but his defensive "effort" has me disliking his game more and more.

You saw the Blazers go right at him to start the game. Wes took him right down to the post. Webber said it was to wear him out so he couldn't be as strong on the offensive end. That may be part of it, but the primary reason to go at him is that it's simply easy to score on him.

I agree that Durant needs to be getting the most shots. My thing is that I feel like Westbrook doesn't take good looks most of the time whereas Durant does. Now as many shots as Westbrook takes he'll eventually start making them but play a team that makes them pay for his rushed shots like that and they are screwed.

Ibaka all over Gasol as he goes by and no call. C'mon man. If you're going to let Ibaka hang on him when he catches at the top, you can't also let him do that when Gasol goes around him.

How was nothing called in that entire series? Durant ran over Conley and Gasol kicked the ball.

Conley costing the Grizz despite playing wonderfully most of the game. Missed free throws, a couple of turnovers (including that one which was a monster). Hopefully he redeems himself.
