The extent of her value is debatable. She's clearly caused her daughter to develop some food and emotional issues, and the whole "sleeping with her daughter's friend/uncle" angle is pretty weird.

Gastric bypass surgery also doesn't (always) curb appetite. She's been over 500 lbs for 20+ years. A large part of the blame is 10K calories/day of bad decisions, and I suspect she views gastric bypass as the easy solution.
