Yup, bargain deal for a QB that you can win with, IMO.

I'd be pretty (pleasantly) surprised if it's that low. I think it'll be at least 10 million more in guaranteed money and 2-3 mil/year on average.

Do it! It will be worth it just to see a few of the Smith haters have a full meltdown.

It's not a cap killer.

Good enough.

I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with that? It doesn't kill your cap, and it's about what one would expect with a QB of his caliber.

Problem is that Condom reportedly wants Cutler numbers. Am I correct with that assumption?

Makes sense. No way that Alex is going to squeeze the Chiefs and worsen their chances of putting together a better team to win with.

Our initial base terms brought forth an average annual salary just over $17M a year, a figure that would make him the 8th highest average paid quarterback in footbal.

We all want to believe that Alex Smith is this kind of guy. All of the evidence suggests Alex Smith is this kind of guy.

However, saying there's "no way" he's going to squeeze the Chiefs is both premature and naive.

I would take that contract instantly.

Alex should, too. The fact that someone would ink him longterm is a feeling he hasn't felt since the day he was drafted. I hope his team wises up and signs something like that.

Why do fans have to like everything the Chiefs do?

Seems like it doesn't matter the fan base is going to show up to games unless they go 2-14 again. 8-8 is just fine for this fan base.

I don't like Alex Smith but if he is who we got then I will reluctantly root for him. Hope he wins us a damn Super Bowl in that case. fuck him if we can't even win a playoff game. Even if it's not his "fault" fuck him learn to draft and develop quarterbacks that can stick around and build a damn team around not band~AIDS.

$15.6 seems about right for Alex. I'd do it and push a lot of money to year 5 that he'll never see...

I'd be happy with this deal as well for the Chiefs. I'd think that still gives them manuverability to build positions of need.

However, (and I know I'm going to take shit for this) his numbers for 2012 and 2013 are being compared to the numbers of QB's that are on established teams, having been in the same offense for a number of years and developed chemistry and timing with players, etc. I get it that you have to compare the numbers to someone, but doesn't that need to be mentioned?

Again, not really arguing, because I like that deal, and would like to see it done for around that price/term.

Excuses?

Yeah, there's no way that having Julio Jones, AJ Green, Roddy White, Dez Bryant, etc for multiple years could help improve a QB's numbers. There's just no way.

Considering the fact that I have been projecting the extension to be around $15-16 mil a year? Of course.

He certainly wasn't benched for poor performance. Not sure why that's relevant. But again, we don't need to go crazy over this. I like the deal - hope it's somewhere in that neighborhood. Good for KC, good for Smith.
