Murray suffered that ACL in November.

Perfect.

You get a chance to keep that vet backup, develop and evaluate Bray, and allow Murray to digest the system from IR.

so he can compete for a starting job in 2015 and we don't have to waste our cap on a 100 million dollar Alex Smith contract and all the 49ers fans can fuck back off to fucksville when Smith is gone

I'll bet you he's healthy enough to participate in limited drills in training camp.

People pimped the shit out of Stanzi and he was a 5th round pick. I'm not going anywhere with this one just yet.

And yes, I have seen him out of college, just saying there's always a chance he does nothing. We'll see.

That said, he's still worth the "risk".

I think it's going be if he can take advantage of the opportunities he gets & make more opportunity happen for himself.

Regardless I hope we draft a first round quarterback next year and let them compete.

People pimped every Pioli pick just to find the silver lining because we were desperate as a fan base grasping for straws from 2009-2012.

It's not retarded in the slightest, really. These draft moves have been to cover dudes they have lost or for future salary dumps.

Chase Daniel is one salary they are going to dump, as paying a back up QB nearly 5 mil is just not going to happen.

Mr. Laz
05-10-2014, 03:56 PM
depends on what Bray has shown in the meeting rooms and on the practice field

If the Chiefs really think Bray has a chance then Daniel is gone, if not then Bray gets whacked

BryanBusby
05-10-2014, 03:58 PM
Not necessarily.

If they think Bray is ready to be the #2 guy, Daniel is cut right away. If they feel he isn't ready just yet, Murray lands on the IR with a made up injury.

If Bray is hopeless, yeah he gone.

How much of a cap hit would it be to cut Daniel? I think Bray is out...Daniel played pretty well in that game vs the Chargers 70% completion and a QBR of 83. Maybe they tell Daniel he has to restructure his contract or they'll cut him...who knows.

Why not? Andy Reid has done it before (go into the season with an inexperienced #2) a couple times.

Most recently was Vick and Foles as his 2

this one doesn't count because he was expected to start but he did it in 1999 with McNabb

McNabb was a rookie (Murray)
Detmer had 1 year in the league (Bray)
Pederson was 31 years old and started the season (Smith)

obviously the parameters are different (Murray being a 5th round pick, McNabb being a first rounder) but he has carried inexperience as his #2 before.

Yeah, that's a little different situation as far as the QBs.

But the one thing that has in common with now? It was early in his tenure.

Maybe he will do it. I'm still skeptical but there's certainly at least some precedent there...

Yea I don't think he's afraid to go with inexperience as his #2. The question is are Murray/Bray more of the mold of Detmer/Feeley for Reid or are they a potential homerun like Foles. That's the question. If they are just young guys that are going to backup Smith for 5/6 years and be the next Detmer/Feeley then who cares.

If it were up to me, I'd pencil Murray in at the #2 spot right now.

I think he's "NFL ready" moreso than Bray. Bray is your developmental guy.

Murray needs development, but not as much as Bray.

The main reason I'd do it is because Daniel is just horribly overcompensated. I know I keep saying "awful" but it just is. Terrible.

even if they keep Daniel, Murray will beat him out for the #2. So you'd be paying that contract for a #3. That's how I justify not keeping him. If Smith gets hurt and you choose to want to put in Murray anyway, then there's no point in keeping Daniel. Murray can play from day 1, that's the argument. So you might as well have the development guy as the #3 and not the career clipboard holder eating cap space.

I rather it be Daniel, but got a feeling its Bray unless he just absoluetly lights it up in training camp. I think they do want 1 developmental guy and then seasoned back up. But who knows maybe they can just IR Murray to let him completely heel up and keep all 4.
