"A mother who killed her daughter's rapist by setting him on fire began a five-and-half-year prison sentence this week.

Maria del Carmen Garcia of Benejúzar, Spain, was convicted of murder in 2009, according to The Local.

The killing occurred in 2005, after Antonio Soriano, a man who raped Garcia's daughter in 1998 but was out of prison on parole, ran into Garcia and asked, "How's your daughter?" Later that day, Garcia purchased gasoline, located Soriano in a bar, threw the gasoline on him and set him on fire. He died 11 days later of his burns.

Garcia's daughter was 13 at the time of the rape.

Garcia was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison, but court officials released her in 2006, citing "special circumstances," such as the fact that Garcia had no previous record and claimed to have experienced temporary insanity when she committed the crime.

However, the High Court of Justice of Valencia ruled that Garcia must go back to prison to serve a reduced sentence of five and a half years, according to Dreamin Demon's translation of Spanish media outlet El Mundo."

That woman should not have spent a fucking second in jail. That is a bunch of crap. The rapist had it coming. Glad he died a slower painful death.

Eleven days is a long time to die.Not sure it's long enough for a guy who raped a 13-year old girl and then later turned around and mouthed off to her mother. This should qualify as a darwin award: slow burn edition.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting it, and it was statutory rather than forced, and he was asking out of genuine concern, but even then...

If she was awesome, she wouldn't have gotten caught. I'd say she gets an award for being rightfully vengeful

If someone did that to my daughter...they would die...they would deserve it...and none of you would ever know a thing about it.

id say being burnt alive and dying 11 days later is an about right punishment for raping a 13 year old girl and having no remorse whatsoever

The rapist of a child was sentenced to 9 years before he was released on parole after at most 7 years in jail.

Meanwhile, the woman gets 9.5 years initially for murder (most courts here in the good ol' US of A would deem it pre-meditated), released early (again, after an unspecified amount of time behind bars) due to special circumstances, and then is placed back in jail for another 5.5 years.

Spain's new tourism slogan: "We welcome all foreign rapists and murderers to practice your crimes here where you'll receive the most compassionate treatment!"

Antonio Cosme Velasco Soriano, 69, had been sent to jail for nine years in 1998, but was let out on a three-day pass and returned to his home town of Benejúzar, 30 miles south of Alicante, on the Costa Blanca.

"While there, he passed his victim’s mother in the street and allegedly taunted her about the attack. He is said to have called out “How’s your daughter?”, before heading into a crowded bar.

Shortly after, the woman walked into the bar, poured a bottle of petrol over Soriano and lit a match. She watched as the flames engulfed him, before walking out."

What a bad ass. If someone hurt one of my kid like that, they would meet a similar fate.

You know, in spite of all the complaining you hear about our justice system here in the U.S., we should really be thankful for it. Court systems in European countries like Spain (this case) and Italy (think Amanda Knox) can say, "Hey...you know what? We've re-thought your case and decided the verdict was wrong. You need to be in prison."

As for this woman...she should be given a parade.

That was poetic justice. A real work of art. Instead of sending her to prison, they should have given her a Nobel prize.
