I am in the midst of a debate about Bryan Cranston with a buddy. One of us believes he is most well-known for his role as Walter White on Breaking Bad. The other believes he may be more famous for his role as Hal (the dad) on Malcolm in the Middle.

Discuss.

I've never sat down and watched an epsidoe of M/M. Found out he played the Dad on that show from news, internet articles etc.

its about meth, but there is much much more to it then that. YOu could see how a guy would at least start what he's doing when you have to deal with the health issues he did, then after that, shit just got way out of control. lol

Basically it shows once you start down that road, there is almost no turning back.

IT's a character study. The meth is pretty incidental... the important thing is that he was making money by doing something illegal.

BB was arguably one of the greatest TV series "works of art" that we will ever see in our lifetime. The characters, the story-line, the constant, EXTREME battle between good and evil. It was smart. It was intense. It touched all the human senses. I'm so sad that I will never see a new episode again. :deevee:

It's network back when that meant something. I'm sure it has many times the viewers of. I like both shows a lot, but network is network, ratings-wise.

GoT, Sopranos, maybe a Mad Men finale are all that approach network ratings.

Googling around it looks like MitM was in the 23-26M range at the start and in the teens for entire seasons, while BB got as high as around 6.4M for regular episodes, the finale was 10.4M. Season 4 finale was 1.9M.

If I would have known Cranston was Hal in Malcolm, I probably wouldn't have started watching it.

I'm not particularly good with actor & actresses names. People say "so and so" was in "that movie" or show. I've really never paid attention.

This show I didn't see the first episode. A friend called me the night of the second episode and told me to watch the replay of the first one and then the second episode right after. I was instantly hooked like a guy on meth that night. I was literally shaking after the second episode.

That hasn't happened to me since seeing Edith in All in the Family.

The thing about Breaking Bad is that it's just so rare to see a sustained series that gets better as it continues. Cranston is a versatile man, and Walter White was built, in part, on his comedic chops as well as his dramatic ability. Whatever else he accomplishes in front of or away from the camera, Cranston was put on this planet to play Heisenberg.
