there is an overall lack of any coherent hitting approach to the organization in my opinion.

it's like what are they trying to accomplish?

We know we really don't hit for power. But in absence of that we don't take pitches or work counts. we don't walk. we don't play small ball well and move runners over.

i don't get it.

our apparent approach is to go to the plate and swing at everything and anything. our entire team swings at WAAAY too many balls out of the zone and we actually lead the league in lowest strikeout % (although i think we strikeout more when we have runners in scoring position). that means we swing at balls and actually hit them which results in weak grounders and lazy fly balls.

Vargas and Guthrie right now are at about where they should be. Ventura will probably regress a little. Duffy seems to be inconsistent, which we already knew. Shields is Shields.

I'd say that replacing Santana, Davis, and ChenDoza with Ventura, Vargas, and Duffy should all balance out. I honestly don't expect a huge regression from our pitching, but that's just my opinion.
