If Duffy keeps up at this pace do you change the rotation at the AS break?
Ned:
1. Shields
2. Vargas
3. Guthrie
4. Chen
5. Ventura

And that was in no way a knock on Guthrie. This rotation has just been outstanding this year.

we don't have a freakishly-good Cy Young contender (maybe Ventura someday), but our rotation doesn't have a hole. Every single one of our pitchers gives us a reasonable chance to expect a win against anyone, provided we hit.

It will also ease the blow of Shields leaving next year with Duffy pitching like this. If he can carry this over to next season then we just have to fill in one spot in the rotation next season.
I like our rotation the way it is now. Gives you something different every day. I like having Ventura behind Vargas and then Duffy behind Guthrie. Gives you a hard throwing youngster from the opposite side of the veteran the day before. I imagine Chen's going back to the bullpen.

Sort of off topic - but whatever happened to that kid Danny Almonte who got caught faking his birth certificate while playing in the LLWS?
He should be about old enough to play in college or in the minors, I would think.

Perhaps the most controversial player in LLWS history, Danny Almonte is a name synonymous with the lengths people will go to in an effort to gain an advantage.
Almonte pitched for the Bronx Little League team during the 2001 LLWS. His fastball reached 75 mph, and he struck out 62 of the 72 batters he faced in Williamsport. He also threw a perfect game against Florida.
In the U.S. finals, that same Florida team defeated Almonte's squad—in large part because Almonte had reached a required rest period after pitching in the U.S. semifinals.
After the tournament, it was found that Almonte wasn't actually 12 years old. An investigation into the Dominican Republic's head of national public records declared Almonte was really 14, and because of that Almonte's team forfeited all games and records. He was cleared of any wrongdoing and stayed in the U.S.
He wasn't selected in the 2006 MLB draft and instead joined the Southern Illinois Miners in the independent Frontier League.
Almonte has since given up dreams of playing pro baseball and is now an assistant high school baseball coach.

I'm not sure what all the issues were with you all early on. I can say Freddy G has pissed me off lately - but chiefly where the Braves issues are concerned, honestly?
They need to fire their hitting coaches - and they have two of them by the way.
I mean were the sticks the issue or pitching or both w/ the Royals when they were sort of struggling (again, earlier this season) ...?

I'm one of the few posters who don't hate Ned. I'm not a fan either, with me its more like I have a very, very, very low bar of expectations that if met, I no longer care about the manager.
Ned is the first dude who has met that very low bar as a Royals manager in a long-ass time. (1. do not play small-ball too much 2. do not hurt our pitchers)

Forgive me - I've not been around in here much - I'm thrilled to see them on that Chicago network, it's really rare I see them. Yost is really close to Bobby and Freddy IRL, away from ball.
If Freddy wasn't around - I think the Braves would have made a run at him, as the local love for Yost goes on up the Braves org.
But yeah - I have mentioned it here before, maybe. Yost is a hell of a person & a fairly decent baseball mind. IDK

One last thing about the Braves - as here and the Cards thread are the only places to discuss them.
But Freddy G manages EXACTLY the same way Bobby did - His demeanor post game is much the same - Our offense needs a swift kick in the ass sometimes - and much like Bobby Cox Fred will leave the pitchers in the game too long (when they're starting to get hit.)
The Braves won't make any noise at all in the post-season unless they address their hitting coaches. Someone in that department are not doing their job with these guys.
For example - Dan Uggla - just completely lost at the plate - I truly believe (though he's getting older now) - you put a good hitting coach w/ him, he's an adjustment and approach change away from a .250 average.
that's just a quick example - there are so many issues offensively with the Braves that they'll be lucky to make it to post season.
Miami has been going balls deep on opponents lately.
