He was apparently extremely paranoid for weeks leading up to the tragedy, thinking people were trying to kill him and his family.

The benoit thing was always an attempt to insist that correlation equals causation, but major brain trauma combined with alcohol abuse seems like the more likely explanation with helluva lot more precedent.
