The Kansas City Chiefs did little to address their passing attack this offseason, but help is on the way in the form of a 2013 draft pick.

Tight end Travis Kelce joined rookies and selected veterans for an early start to training camp on Monday, per The Kansas City Star. He had been limited to individual drills in offseason practices after undergoing microfracture knee surgery in October.

Now 100 percent recovered, Kelce was noticeably brace-free while catching passes from Alex Smith on Monday.

Drawing comparisons to Jason Witten, Heath Miller and Jeremy Shockey as the No. 63 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Kelce was ticketed for a major role last summer before the knee issue arose.

He ended up playing just one special teams snap in a lost rookie season.

General manager John Dorsey has made it clear several times in the past few months that the Chiefs are counting on Kelce to emerge as the primary pass-catching tight end.

With 4.61 wheels, Kelce can challenge safeties down the seam, opening the underneath routes that Smith likes to exploit in Andy Reid's offense.

The only reason Kelce did not make Around The League's "Making the Leap" countdown this offseason was the uncertainty over his knee.

Now that he's back to full health, Kelce is a prime candidate for a breakout season in the City of Fountains.

Would we have ever drafted him if his brother, Jason didn't play for the Eagles?

I have a real hard time taking this dude seriously. "Hey coach, you should draft my kid brother! He's awesome!"

I hope he eventually alleviates my skepticism.

Believe it when I see it. Microsurgery is a tricky deal.

They mentioned him on sports radio this morning as one of the players that is supposed to have a break out year, I hope he lives up to all the hype.

There was a reddit post about the procedure a Kelce had done..

It doesn't bode well for him or anyone else who gets microfracture..

Why do haters just have to hate. Give the guy a chance. He was supposed to be a good pick at the time. Hell I got hurt one time , now I'm awesome.

He ended up playing just one special teams snap in a lost rookie season.

So if he gets 2 snaps- that will double his production.

When a player doubles their production-the media calls it a "breakout" year.

So yes- I see this happening.

Frankly, I have more faith in Harris than Kelce, but it's like trying to win the lotto vs. hoping to have the winning ticket in Publisher's Clearinghouse to me.

The Chiefs would have the greatest team in the history of football if all of their training camp heroes poised for breakout seasons ever did jack shit.

Because KC did so little in free agency, 2014 is officially the "breakout year".

Every single player who has been a disappointment, whether injury or started slowly, etc., is poised to breakout this year.

I guess when there isn't much to get excited about, you cling to whatever you can get your fingers on.

Dude, it's not hating to be skeptical a guy whose main asset was his freakish athleticism is going to come back from microfracture surgery and be just fine.

Recovery from that injury is still a large question mark. It's basically like an ACL injury 15-20 years ago.

It's worse.

He'll be out of the NFL in 2 years.

I don't dislike the man - there's no reason to. I absolutely hate that we're depending on a guy who's a long shot to even play again...

Obviously nobody knew the HOF career ahead of Kelce at that point. But, if I was one of them, I'd bake one of the best dishes of crow pie ever made and serve it with a smile.

Andy has never had final say on personnel while in KC.

Andy has never had final say on personnel while in KC.

I thought I read somewhere that Andy agreed to take the job, but only if he had final say on all players, but then relinquished that when Varch became the GM.
