The Chiefs used all three rush linebackers — Tamba Hali, Justin Houston and rookie Dee Ford — at the same time in nickel situations on Thursday, and Hali said there’s even more to come.

“Yeah, we have a fourth guy, Josh Martin,” Hali said of the second-year player from Columbia University of the Ivy League. “Putting all of us in there, we all love rushing. Coach (Bob) Sutton is going to be the one to call it, and we just have to have the will and desire to come off the ball and cause havoc in the backfield.”

Hali said he worked out during the off-season with Martin in California.

“We ran sand dunes; the kid is gifted,” Hali said. “He’s very fast, very strong, and very smart. I mean, he went to Columbia. He can do it all. It’s just a matter of opportunity, and getting a chance to rush the passer, and he can prove it.
“That’s the future. Those guys are going to be around for quite a bit. It’s good to be able to work with them. I wish I had the speed Josh has, and I wish I was as strong as Justin, but with the knowledge I’ve acquired over the years, I’m able to pass it on to these guys, and I mean, they can run with

Updated 4/29, 2:15 a.m.

After a standout senior season for the Light Blue, defensive end Josh Martin will be taking his talents to Kansas City.

Martin signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent after the conclusion of the NFL draft on Saturday evening. The senior was named first team all-Ivy in 2012 after recording 6.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss on the season. Just under half of those sacks came on Senior Day, when Martin overwhelmed Cornell’s offensive line for three sacks, three tackles for loss, and a forced fumble in Columbia’s 34-17 victory. Over his career with the Light Blue, Martin had 140 total tackles, 85 of which were solo. He recorded 17.5 sacks and 29.5 tackles for loss.

The defensive lineman is one of seven Ivy players headed to the NFL for the upcoming season. Cornell offensive lineman JC Tretter and Harvard fullback Kyle Juszczyk were both drafted in the fourth round by the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens, respectively. Princeton defensive lineman Mike Catapano will be joining Martin in Kansas City having been drafted in the seventh round

He was on the team all year last year. Was decent his senior year at Columbia. Had 6.5 sacks and 11 TFL in 2012....they only play 10 games in Ivy League so it's not bad production. He is a good athlete. Made team as UDFA last year as a rookie played primarily as back up but flashed signs he could be good.

Dorsey likes him some Ivy League guys.
If we can get these two to produce along with a few TC WR sensations he can really save on the cap.

Martin, physically, like everyone else on the front 7, looks like a freak. If we go 4 deep at OLB, that'd be pretty sweet. Especially if one of the top 2 is gone next year.
