According to McCullough and Mellinger, Yost said he might use James Shields as a pinch-hitter to get through the pitcher spot since we only have 3 bench players (including the backup catcher) and he's our best-hitting pitcher.
Its unclear if he's joking.

So... if I understand this...
8 guys (minus pitcher) on the field, plus 3 bench players = 11 INF/OF/C, which means that the Royals are either carrying 13 or 14 pitchers, am I not mistaken?

I guess its 4 bench guys if you count the backup catcher, but its really risky to play him. But yeah, we're carrying 13 pitchers.
May the Royals give Duff some run support tonight. :grovel:

Yankees up 1.
How in the hell can you be 5-10 with a 2.42 ERA? That simply does not compute.
According to the preview piece on espn, he has gotten 8 runs of support in his last eight games.
Kansas City's Danny Duffy (5-10, 2.42 ERA) is 2-5 with a 1.74 ERA in his last nine starts, and received just eight runs of support in the last eight. Three of those came while he went 0-3 with a 2.01 ERA in five July outings, but none in the last two.

Well, he has had the terrible misfortune of matching up with Kershaw, Kluber(x2), and Anibal(x2).
It doesn't get much more brutal than that.

Yeah, that's just dumb to carry 13 pitchers. One pitcher has to go to either Omaha or DFA'ed in order to get some bench and/or a bat.
Pitching isn't the problem for the Royals, IMHO. It's the offense.

What do you have against winning the division?
Would you not rather want a 5 game series or would rather play a 1 game play in game ?
I don't have nothing against winning the division. Let Detroit take care of the other wildcard teams behind us, we can take Detroit out ourselves for the division. Make it a AL Central winner/wildcard position guarantee.

I want to Detroit to lose every night. Full stop.
If we're this close, I don't care how frightening the Tigers may look on paper, I'm not interested in a plane flight to Orange County unless the division is lost.
