Life's too short to not use homemade cocktail sauce.

Ketchup, fresh squeeze lemon, good strong horseradish [freshly grated if possible], Worcestershire, and Tabasco.

I don't make them often enough to have a 'go to' type of recipe. Sorry. I do generally go with a mustard sauce, as opposed to a cocktail sauce. Maybe that can be the start of an idea for you.
