View Full Version : Chiefs Teicher: Chiefs didn't go after WRs because of Kelce

ESPN's Adam Teicher has been told that Travis Kelce's big-play ability is one reason the Chiefs weren't more aggressive in pursuing wide receivers this offseason.

This suggests that Kelce will be a real part of the Week 1 gameplan even though his first-team snaps were limited in the preseason. Note that with Dwayne Bowe suspended for Week 1, the Chiefs' wideout depth chart reads Donnie Avery, Frankie Hammond, Junior Hemingway, Albert Wilson, A.J. Jenkins. Kelce, an exciting talent with eye-opening playmaking ability after the catch, is a prime TE2 target. We'll have a better read on his exact role after Week 1.

Got to admit. A lineup of bowe/selectawarmbody/ Charles/ DAT/ Kelce is probably the most playmakers we've had since... Well awhile. The priest/kennison /Gonzalez/ Morton days at least. And that in itself is pathetic.

I don't think people understand how good this guy can be. Besides the two TD's where he demonstrated his speed almost every other catch he made the first guy miss. He's elusive as shit for a guy that big. He has it all. He can also block better than most people think.

I am more hopeful about the receiving core than I am about our OL, a lot more hopeful. While we didn't bring in a proven vet or someone who could potentially be a #1 or even #2, we got a couple of guys who will be at least better than McCluster and Chad ****en Hall. Yeah, Kelce turned out amazing. Doesn't mean that we couldn't have improved in that draft. It's pretty bad that we passed up on Demarcus Lawrence for Dee, lined up offsides Ford in 2014, and took Gaines over Breeland. But where we picked, there wasn't really any good receivers taken. Although just about anyone would have been better than DAT. For as much as we thought Dorsey was a great talent evaluator, he blew that 2014 draft. LDT is the only player that went to SBLIV with the team. Breeland and Hitchens were from that draft, but signed as free agents.
